Detail Werkz : 1955 Chevy Bel Air

This was a 1955 Chevy Bel Air that a client had in storage. I first saw this car at a shop getting some mechanical work performed and when he showed it to me I noticed a TON of swirls. I told him that we should do some paint correction on it but he was on a tight budget just spending a large coin on the mechanical work, so I convinced him to try my Platinum Gloss Package that incorporates an hour worth of compound treatment to work out about 60-70% of the paint issues like swirls, holograms and slight RIDS. We schedule the vehicle and here is what I saw after we washed twice with Dawn soap and using the Lavender Gloss-It clay using the Dawn soap as the lube.

So I wanted to try out and see how the new Gloss-It Evolution Polish beta did out in the sun. I only had 3 hours to complete this detail and time was important to me so I opted to use the 7424, a green UK 3M pad and the beta evolution polish on speed 6 of the 7424.

I started out on the rear driver side and worked my way around.

Here is a close 50/50 shot of the rear fender worked and the next panel raw. You can really see how bad the paint was damaged with swirls and RIDS. The beta knocked out just about all of the swirls and tore into the RIDS pretty good. Again I was not even trying to get this much correction. I was hoping for at least 60% better correction.

Next panel looked like this.

Working it using the 7424, green UK 3M pad and beta. I worked this panel around 2-3 mins.

I was more than happy with the outcome. I knew that the client was going to be blown away with this detail by seeing the results I was achieving. I continued around the car. And here are the results of the driver side once I was completed.

Here is what my pad looked like after the driver side. The paint was oxidized really bad and it destroyed this brand new green UK 3m pad. Even at this state it was still doing a good job.

I flipped the car around so I could see how bad the passenger side of the car looked in the sun. It was just as bad.

I grabbed a new green UK 3m pad and started to knock this side out. Took me about 40 mins to do this side, but again it turned out better than I was expecting.

Once I had the car looking good, I applied a coat of the Signature Gloss and topped it with a coat of the Gloss Finish. After letting this cure for a bit I took it off and I decided to pull out my light of truth LED light and walk panel by panel and see how it all looked. Again even with the LED light it was looking really good.

I was also amazed at the depth and shine and clarity that was popping from the paint.

I pulled the car out in the sun so I could see how it looked and so the client could see how it looked when he came to pick it up. Enjoy the shots.

The interior we used Tough Stuff to clean everything and applied Gloss-It T.R.V. and topped the seats with the Gloss-It Satin Leather Polish. The tires were treated with Gloss-It Signature tire dressing. Glass was cleaned with Invisible Glass.

Total time for this detail was 4 hours with one guy helping me.

looks good man.

good to see a porter cable can do some good work!

I am always amazed at just what the 7424 can do! If they could only get rid of the vibration! My hand was vibrating for over an hour after that job! :lol

As clear as the forum rules are....Read em when you get a chance...:grinno:

Outstanding work, with or without phone numbers. ;) Your results with a random orbital are just amazing. It gives me hope!

Brian,

I know you are the PC and Cyclo monster, but get a Flex DA

I do have a flex DA in my arsenal of machines, and soon Flex Orbit, and I like the Flex DA but I have so much more control over the 7424 than the flex esp in tight areas. The flex likes to jerk me around esp if it hits a high spot it wants to walk the line and scares me a bit. I am not as big as you YET..so its more of a work out for me to use the flex.

I do like to use the flex on flat surfaces like the hood and trunk, but using the DA flex on sides is more of a challenge to me.
