Detail on WoodTrim

I was just wondering which product you would recommend to clean the interior wood Trim. I have an BMW X5 with dark wood trim. I believe there is a layer of clear plastic on top. I was wondering if Maguiars's Plastic Care #10 and #17 are perfect for the job or will they scratch the surface. I just want to clean and make it look shinny like the first day I got the car. Or do you know of any other product that works great. Thanks a bunch.
 
I use a precleanser and then a wax to clean the wood trim in my 540. I am sure almost any wax will do. I would be careful with the strong polishes, the trim scratches easily.
 
Most modern wood trim is clearcoated, much like your paint. I usually use some Sprayway glass cleaner to clean it and then some Zaino to protect it. But basically any car wax should work. And T.C. is right, BMW wood trim seems to scratch easily.

So should I purchase the Meguiars products or just wax it. I believe the woodtrim has some Urethen clearcoat on top.
 
Personally, I'd treat it just like you would your paint. Clean it with something gentle (even soap and water should work fine) and then use a wax or synthetic polymer (Klasse, Zaino, etc.) on it. I wouldn't use the plastic cleaners.

I called up Mercedes Benz and asked them what I should use to clean the wood on my car, and they said to use Windex 'cause the wood has sealant on top of it and it won't hurt it. The Windex works great for me.
 
Be very careful with what type of towel you use to clean the wood. BMW has notoriously soft wood that will scratch very easily.

Thanks to all the advise. Planning to use water and soap to clean and Zaino to polish with MF towels.
