Deleted CG Extreme Shine Review

Maybe I'm expecting too much from other forum users, but wouldn't it also frowned upon to start a thread discussing something you know will spark controversy?

If you'd like to discuss this, please PM me. We are getting way off topic here.

I'm missing why Autopia has singled out several Autopians for making comparisons between product lines. Several different members have chosen to make the comparisons and systematically they are being deleted and now told that kind of discusion is not allowed. I'm not sure what rule we are all breaking, in fact I remember David encouraging this discusion in another post about boutique brands. I think saying people have something to prove is being a little paranoid, I think people were following the free exchange of information, at least that's what I was doing. Here's what David wants from Autopia and I thought everyone was following this except the closed minded individuals who are product obsessed:

"From the beginning, the very nature of Autopia has been to explore, share knowledge and enjoy a community of like-minded people. That means we do evaluate products, we do compare products, we do ask the tough questions, and we do document facts as knowledge. That’s all well and good until it turns into the Autopia version of the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s." David B.

People who were making the comparisons aren't the people trying to make it a fued, they were just sharing information in the spirit of Autopia, IMO. I have seen no ill intent from any of them, in fact the last post was by a product loyalist who found he can get his favorite product cheaper. Now this type of thing is banned here because of a few repected members don't like the posts and make trouble. Perhaps someone high up can clarify why making certain comparisons are no longer tolerated so the rest of us can follow the rules w/o being singled out as being trouble makers. :sadpace:

Here's the problem.

XXXX: They're the same

Y: NO! .........................................bad post................................bad post..........................bad post

Z: YES!.........................................bad post...............................

Y: You turd!

Z: Well you suck at detailing

Y: NO YOU DO!

And then people don't understand that making the comparisons will spark a fire. Even after about 5 times of it happening. No the intentions of the posts are not to besmirch a product line, but the discussions that will follow are hardly unpredictable. It's best to not bring it up.

No the original poster is not responsible for the discussion, but they should respect the forum as to not take it in a predictably bad direction.

These threads could stay as long as everyone would act civil and get rid of the personal attacks. Aren't we all here to find the best products that make our cars look the best??

Remember folks...Its only detailing products. :hairpull

Dude, people should try ignore function it works wonders. People should be able to bring up what ever they want so long as it's the truth as they see it. This site takes one step forward and two back some times. Oh hey super mods, is there ignore button anymore since update?

You can be considered part of the problem for bringing up a heated thread after noone has posted in it for two weeks.

Me too, as it wasn't necessary for me to respond. But, I feel better now.

First of all I didn't read this thread again until today as I was going through the forums and I was posting a response to someone who was responding to me. So explain how it is your business to be rude like that?

The standard I think we have set for ourselves, or that we should set for ourselves, is that we should explore how to maximize the effectiveness of the product or products we are reviewing.

While it might be wrong to say, "this product is the exact same as xx product", it is definitely NOT wrong to say, "I used this product this way, and I got these results. My conclusion is that you can get excellent results for less money by using this product." By doing that you have removed the focus from the product to the result. You haven't offended anyone. You haven't jumped to unproveable conclusions. All you did was report your results. And you have complied with the maxim set above: by using the product as you described, anyone can pick it up and get the same results, and keep a little hard earned jingle in the pocket. And those who prefer to spend more and get their equally valid results are free to do so as well, without argument or insult.

I hope this helps,

Tom
