Degreaser

In the near future I will begin to try to detail my car. I've read all of the detailng posts and seen that a degreaser (this is not the same as using a car wash liquid is it?) is used to remove the wax from the paint to see all the imperfections before beginning the compounding, polishing, etc...

What is a good degreaser to use and actually the method when using a degreaser? Is it just like washing your car or do you just put it in a spray bottle and wipe your panels with it. Also are there any good degreasers I can get from Autozone, AdvanceAutoParts, O'Reily's?

Go to Auto Zone, I really like Purple Power. its about 5 dollars a gallon give or take. Dilute it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle. Than rinse your car off with your hose, pressure washer, w.e, and with the car wet, mist on the degreaser. From there, wash your car with soap and water as you normally would. Don't go crazy with the degreaser, stay away from rubber seals and plastic with it as well.

PP is the way to go. I agree. I have used it full strength and diluted. Make sure to rinse it off as soon as you have cleansed the area and rinse thoroughly!! You do NOT want this stuff sitting on seals, trim, tires, aluminum and the like. It is very powerful.

Would'nt claying the car followed by an IPA wipedown be a lot safer? Maybe a little more time but I would think that that would be a much safer process to remove any old wax residue.

My favorite degreaser is Surf City Grime Destroyer. It can be found at Pep Boys. But from the little I know, that is not what you would use to remove old wax, you should use a paint cleanser.

On your car you should know if it has any wax buildup.

Do a Dawn wash.

Then wipe a panel with IPA and check for any difference between panels.

Or use a paint cleaner or polish.
