Defective Optimum Polish?

I may have a defective bottle of this polish. The consistancy of this bottle is very chunky and I am unable to squeeze product out of the cap funnel without having to remove the whole cap. I shaked the bottle vigorously for 5 minutes hoping to reduce the chunks but it did not help. I used it with my PC at a speed of 5-6 over the entire car at night under flourescent lighting everything seemed fine. The next day I brought the car out for final inspection under the sun before I apply wax and found holograming all over the car. I continued to work this product again under the sun using various pads and the holograming would not go away. I then used Sonus SFX-2 polish and it was able to remove the holograms on my hood then I ran out of product. I just sent out an e-mail to the vendor I bought it from to get exchanged.

For the mean time I put EX w/ Carnauba over the car. At night the car looks flawless but under direct sunlight you notice the holograming though.

I found mine needs to be shaken really really well, it had seperated out alot when I first got it. But after a good mix its nothing like you describe. Worth getting it checked out.

gameon, how old is the product?

There's no date on it stating when it was made. I bought it Labor day weekend online. I used it last week.

I shaked it before I used it like I usually do with polishing products. Found that it was hard to push the product out of the funnel on the cap so I twisted off the cap and poured it onto my pad. On my pad there was thick cream and within the cream were little chunks. So I wiped it off the pad. Shook the bottle even longer. The consistency of the product was still the same with small chunks that would clog the funnel on the cap. I just decided to use it as is. It was removing the swirls I had on my car so I thought nothing of the chunks and proceeded to do the whole car.

sorry off topic -what do you reffer as holograms? is it the sama as hazing

Holograms are usually associated with Rotary buffers because of the manner they work. Hazing is from heavier grit polish, which you can remove with lighter polishes.

I could tell hazing under flourescent light because I was using SFX-1 and yellow SFX pad initially on sections with deeper swirls, then I used the Optimum polish all over the car with a white LC pad and then again with a black LC pad.

Not sure if you can see/detect any holograming under flourescent lighting but that didn't even cross my mind since I only use a PC. But I did see it under direct sunlight.

Wow, this is kind of interesting. My two OCP squeeze bottles were also so thick that I couldn't squeeze the OCP out of them and that's after giving them a good manual shaking. Then I put one bottle into my paint shaker machine and that really shook it up well, but it still wouldn't come out very good. At the most, I could get an inch or three on the pad and then it stopped coming out. After getting a bit frustrated with the OCP bottle, I drilled the tip larger on the first bottle and it still had problems coming out no matter how hard I squeezed the bottle. After giving up on the OCP bottles, I've been taking the cap off and carefully tilting them sideways over the pad while manually spinning the pad to apply a ring of OCP around it.

I thought this was just the way OCP was supposed to be, but now after hearing yours is the consistancy of water, I'm really starting to wonder whose got the correct product? Is there some kind of Q/A issue with OCP? Why would mine be so thick that I can't squeeze it from the bottle and yours pours out like water . Something's messed up here :hairpull

my OCP is the consistency of water... is it suppose to be like that? It's really like water!

Are you referring to the wax?

The Polish is thick and if it has sat for a long period of time will seperate. I find higher temperatures will cause it to seperate faster. If a good shaking dose not fix the problem Contact Optimum David will make it right.

^^^ what he said ^^^

I've been using OCP since the early summer and transferred it to application bottles where you can clearly see it seperate. I also was leaving my supplies in the garage during the very hot summer we had and noticed the same thing about heat and OCP.

Not sure what to make of the Chunky thing. Never seen a polish go that way and I have some sitting around for years.

As Ron stated, contact David, he will glady fix the problem for you.

The polish will seperate but a vigorous shake will give you a thick consistency, on a scale of one to ten, ten being thickest, perhaps around 6.

 I've had two bottles of OCW in the last six months, and bought a gallon more recently on the special that Optimum ran. All three items were a mildly thick liquid that would readily separate, but just as readily re-suspend when shaken for a few seconds. Quite similar to 303 in appearance. I've kept the product in my garage the whole time, and even with the summer temps here in Southern California I've had no troubles with the product whatsoever. I"m thinking that Dave should be able to take care of the problem for you with no trouble. He was quite the understanding gentleman when I had contact with him, and I'd buy again from the company in a heartbeat. :woohoo:

Mine was like that the first time I squeezed it out. Waterlike. After a minute or 2 of shaking it was properly mixed and looked like the consistency of white lotion or any of the SSR series.

ahh maybe that was the problem, I was like wth? and went back to hitemp lightcut. I will try a light shake next time.

Stop by Wegmans and in the ladies Make-Up aisle they have small applicator bottles for a buck or less. I think they hold 4 oz (5 if you fill them all the way up)

You can put your products in those as I did w/my Hi-Temp and Optimum stuff.

Not only will you not have to deal with handling 16/32 oz bottles ( I can fit these in a pocket cargo or hip) but since they are clear you can see how the polish seperates and when it's shaken up enough.

Trust me, a "light shake" isn't enough

I received my replacement Optimum Polish bottle today. I first opened the cap and found that the product had separated, water floating on top. Closed cap, shook it thoroughly for about 4-5 mins. The consistency is thick just as Anthony Orosco had said 6 out of 10 on thickness scale. Found no big grainy chunks as I found in my previous bottle. I guess I'm gonna have some fun polishing my car this weekend. Maybe I'll polish under the sun using OP to make sure I get a good finish. Thanks for everyone's input!
