deep cleaning interior

Hi,



I want to do a deep cleaning of the interior of my "new" car - both the carpet and the other felt-like stuff. I have a small shop vac. Will that be enough to act as an "extractor" if I scrub the interior? Would I be better off renting an extractor and/or a steam cleaner? I don't want to buy the equipment, since this is like a once a year or once a two year thing.

If you are a once-in-a-white, do-it-yourselfer, a shop vac just doesn't have enough suction to pull out water. Some people on this forum use adaptors/reducers to get more suctiion from a shop vac by using smaller inside diameter tools (Like going from a 2-1/2" to a 1-1/4" diameter), but I think that it puts a lot of strain on the electric motor. You are better off to get a Bissell Pro-Heat Little Green Machine for occasional use on your car's interior and it's nice to have around the house for cleaning spills/spots on carpets.

The other alternative is to have a professional detailer do it. In my opinion, this may be your most cost-effective way of "deep-cleaning" an interior. They have the right chemicals, equipment, and expertise from their experience.

When you say "New" car, I'm assuming it's "new" to you, but in reality it's a "pre-owned" (IE, used) car that has some miles and wear on it.

There are alot of over-the-counter chemicals that do work OK, and if you REALLY want to do-it-yourself, please search this forum for how-to and what to use.

One of the best tips I found in this forum for cleaning oil stains is use WD-40 or their more interior-friendly version CR Spotless (less odor).

To save some of your cash, do a full interior detail yourself then take it to the shop for only the carpet treatment. It's done in about an hour and you should be out about $50-60.
 
I know you said you don't want to buy anything, but you should check out the Bissell Litttle Green. You can pick them up for about $75-$85, which is about what you would pay to have it done once.



I use it to deep clean my car as well as my brothers and parents once a year. It works great with APC and hot water. I can do my 4 door sedan in less than an hour and I've been very happy with the results. It also works great at cleaning up the small rugs in my house.
