Decal to Advertise?

Hey, that is a very professional looking sign! Very impressive! And you are probably right about over thinking this thing.

It is important to create an image, and it is equally important to go out there and get new customers, especially when you are first starting out. The thing to remember is that every day you are trying to establish your business, is one more day that the image of your business is being formed in the marketplace.

You have the power to create a professional image and that should always be the end goal. Especially, when it comes to servicing high end, high paying detailing customers.

Thanks for a good reply!

Thank you!

I can see it from both sides of the pendulum. It is tough enough as it is for me to get customers, since I am only available a few days each week for detailing. I am simply a college student trying to make money on the side.

If I was planning on actually creating a detailing business, I would definitely try to establish my image in a more thought out plan. However, under my circumstances, I don't have time to research and market towards my market segment, especially when I'm taking 18 hours worth of classes. I recently got hired to work at Hotel ZaZa here in Houston, but we don't start until December (Hotel opens in January).

I simply had thoughts of placing the decal on my car to hopefully get a few calls for detailing. Most of the time, I am either at home, school, or out at barnes & noble studying. It's also in my budget, and I just want to get my name out there to the public.

I love the A sign you have there cj99si. IMO that is a great way to advertise since most of the time when I'm detailing, people will drive by really slow and look to see what I'm doing. Mind if I ask how much you got that sign for? It looks simple, clean, and gets right to the point.

That sign would be about $175.

I would definitely get a sign, especially if you are still new to detailing. Not only when combined with a clean vehicle does it attract attention when you are driving around, when you are parked on location people can see that you are a professional detailer and get your information without having to interupt your work....or use it as a conversation starter.

...and seriously, one person seeing a sign I paid $35 for back in late 1993, has generated a good $5000+ a year since then. I'd say that is a pretty good return on my $35. :)

how else would someone driving by your car know you do detailing just by looking at it if you dont have a vinyl sticker on it....i dont get how some think that its worthless or creates a bad name....its promoting a business, just like coke on a billboard on the side of the freeway....same thing on your car but with two different modes....

1-you are mobile hitting many people

2-smaller size

I am looking at getting a larger sticker made to cover the entire rear window with a logo, then get shirts, and a A frame sign, and a banner....all having a logo, AUTO DETAILING, phone number, and some with a website.com

i think that it will only help, especially when you have a logo everyone can recognize....like DD - jordan

See, I agree. I already have the shirts and full graphic cards(i didnt know cards could cost that much). I was looking into putting decals on my van and when I spoke with my insurance guy he told me the insurance on my van would go up. I thought that was stupid and he was just trying to get more money out of me(which he still might be doing) but he told that having my logos on the van would make it a commercial vehicle and some people out there see that and think that if they get into a wreck with me there will be more money. I dont know if any of you have run into this, either way I'm going to put them on there

thats why i said, if you put commercial lettering on a vehicle, you should have commercial plates. you can get a ticket as well

Depends on the state. No such requirement in Texas except for certain businesses like a/c repair. Both my brothers are also self-employed; one has a lawn care business and the other a computer service and both have signs on their vehicles and are not required to have commercial plates.

im looking into the decals on my car and my work car. i plan to put it on the top of my rear window. anyway, the question i have is, do you guys put your website?

I was thinking:

Exclusive Auto-Detailing

my phone number

"we come to you"

should i put my website in there as well?

I have a vinyl on the rear window of my Passat...I have already had 4 phonecalls in the last 5 weeks about my services, and that's in the off season here in the northeast.

I believe you should put your website on the window. Just don't make it look over crowded, keep it professional.

Maybe put the web address in small print on another window. Keep the first letter of each word capital so it's easier to make out when all the words are bunched together.

ex. www,ExclusiveAutoDetailing,com

I had a full size extended cab truck and my logo, web address, on the rear window in red and white reflecting vinyl so at night you could see it light up. The phone number was huge and centered in the lower part of the rear window, plus it was a so very easy number to remember. ex. (555-TOYS). It got my phone ringing off the wall everyday I opened up and when I wasn't opened too. It was a moving billboard everywhere I went. I also had a much smaller logo on the side pop out windows that got a lot of attention. Decals do work if you display them correctly.

I decided to go with magnets instead of vinyl as I use my truck for personal use and business use. This way, if need be my advertising can come off:

I agree that this is the best way to go if your using your vehicle as a dual purpose business and personal. But mine was business so I went with lettering on the glass because I hate buffing/cleaning around all those letters, and the logo on the paint. Takes all day for the amount of letters I had on the truck.
