Decal Removal

I have a sticky residue after removing a decal from windshield glass. I've tried alcohol, paint thinner, water and razor blade scraping -- all without success. Suggestions please?

Wow. Sounds like you've used it all. If even a razor blade didn't take it off, then I don't know what to tell you. Have you tried sandpaper? If you use a really fine sand paper you may be able to get it out. use the same kind you would to wet sand your car.

Have you tried the hairdryer to get the residue warm enough to wipe it off?

Helped for me a few times...

It's propably not good for paint or interior. It will harm plastic. Just becareful. Wear rubber gloves. You might also try 3M Adhesive remover from Wal-Mart (automotive section) or auto paint/body repair supply store. It contains xylene but is supposed to be paint save. I hope I used it to remove pinstrip adhesive. Again, wear gloves.

My vote goes to Goo Gone. Put some on a paper towel, let it sit on your residue for 10 seconds and then wipe it off. Goo Gone dissolves sticky residue and it will be gone in no time.

Don't use acetone! That stuff is evil, it can ruin a ton of things on the car and really mess up your skin if you get any on you.

Try lighter fluid, the napatha usually will break down different kinds of glue. Wipe some one and let it sit for a few minutes. Then come back and apply again and wait a few minutes. Then while it's still wet scrape with the razor blade.

Goo Gone should work.

Not sure about using something like Steel Wool on a windshield though. It might scratch it. I know you can use it on most side windows though. Test some super fine steel wool on an area of your windshield and then you can use it in combination w/ the goo gone. You should be able to get it off. Remember to apply the goo gone and let it work a little bit before scrubbing.

Yeah, Hair dryer and Goo Gone. Should do the trick. I just did a Vinyl Sticker acrossed my front windshield. Worked just fine. Then wash it and Glass cleaner. Should be nice and clear.

Where do you guys get your Goo Gone? Can it be found in my local Wal Mart or Autozone?

Thanks for the great tips.

yep, go to walmart, in the car care aisle. They should have the auto goo gone there :)

When i got my car, it came off the boat with the stickiest glue i have ever seen. It was in the shape of a big X in the inside of the windscreen. It was thick too, like about 3mm thick of hard super glue.

What i did was put some grease on the X the then got a razor blade tool that is used to clean stove tops.. and scrap down a layer of the glue.. at the same time i rested a towel over the dash, wheel and seat to catch all the debris.

Then i got eucalyptus oil, and put on old towel and just rubbed and it cleared the glue off no worries.... no scratches at all.... really effective.

Stay away from steel wool i think.... My friend had the same glue on his car, but he used one of those dishpads (dosnt feel rough to the touch) and it has severly scratched the windscreen.

Im sure eucalyptus oil will do the trick.
