Like CharlesW wrote here in Iowa it has been cold but today was a decent day at around 45 degrees. So I decided I wanted to remove the rear emblems from the tailgate.
First off I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier. It is a year old and on the back gate it says FRONTIER SE 4X4 You get the idea. I tried to use fishing line and it broke. I attempted dental floss and it broke. I then used a zip tie and got the SE and 4X4 off but the adhesive was a pain in the rear to get off. I used goo gone, didnt help. Then used Scratch-X and it helped remove a little. Got out the hair dryer went went to town but nothing. Used a clay bar and nothing. Mostly had to used my fingers.
I also scratched it a little. If in the right light it can be seen. I gave up on the frontier for now until someone can suggest a better metod.
Thanks for reading and thank you in advance.

Try the fishing line again and work it very slow, back and forth with just a little pressure. Then to get the adhesive off you can either try some mineral spirits or Prep-Sol :)

Try 20# spyder wire -- it's like fishing line, but braided. Get 2 sticks (disposable chopsticks work great) tie & wrap the line around the center of one; then do the same on the other. These work as handles and help in gliding the wire (really monofilament) behind the emblem in a sawing like motion. To remove the glue, try some Naptha (Zippo Lighter fluid). For me, thinner usually does the trick when Naptha doesn't. Saturate a towel (not to the dripping point) and rub the glue. Do not rub on plastic or rubber with thinner for it may damage these types of materials. Once you have the emblems off, you will need to wax the area -- you might even need to polish it.

Hope this helps :)

you have to heat it up with the hair dryer first, then use the line behind it, slowly. when the emblem is off, i would rub the area with mineral spirits to remove the adhesive.just put some on a rag and rub it. then i recommend polishing the area and cleaning it all up.

Though I have never used the fishing line be very careful it could be more damaging than expected.

I have used a heat gun but a hair dryer could work just as well... just not as fast.

Heat the badge at an extreme angle to the surface of the car....you want the heat in the badge not so much in the car work small sections... be patent... it takes a long time to do it right... start at the edge heat the badge so it will release from the double stick tape.. do worry about the tape staying on the car for now... work the badge slowly bending it away from the surface of the veh. and try to remove it in one piece .... it's a pain in the but to get it started again.

DO THIS STEP IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA
you will be working with a flammable and a hear source

once you have the badge off... use your hair dryer and heat the glue/double stick 90° to the surface.... now you want to heat the surface... again work small sections.... you will find the stick'em will roll in to very small sticky balls, so have a rag with mineral spirits or Prep-Sol or Goo Gone. near by to wipe your hands down... you will use a lot of rags so find ones your going to throw away.

I have used fast evaporating lacquer thinner but if you not familiar with this product i suggest now using it and sticking with something not so aggressive....better to be safe than sorry.

As I'm sure you know after your done with all of this you will have to polish and protect because you will have no protection at all.

Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. I am about to go out and attempt to complete it. I do not have any mineral spirits and my wife is at Wal-Mart this very minute but I have her cell phone. Oh well I will see what I can do. It seemed that the good gone didnt do anything earlier. I bought a WD-40 pen stick at target and thought about giving that a try.
Also I completly waxed the other side 2 times to cover the unprotected areas.
I will let you know how it turns out. If anyone else has any more advise or opinions please let me know.

Thanks again, Brian

Well just completed the task at hand. I ended up using a thin show lace with a hair dryer. The emblems came off easy and than I used WD-40 to remove most of the adhesive. My right thumb is very sore. I then found a chemical used Oops in the house. Its suppose to be a general adhesive and whatever remover. I was very very skeptikal on using it but... I did. It worked beautifully. I then washed with a little soap and water then clayed it. Finally a coat of wax over the entire tailgate and I believe it turned out very well.
Thank you everyone for reading and your support. Onto the next project.
