Dear Makers of NXT: the product is good, the smell is bad

Corey Bit Spank,

It's not illegal if you both are under 18! ;)

I've used NXT twice now, and honestly don't think I smelled it. Could be I was outside, but I usually get atleast a little whiff of what I'm using.

On my arctic pearl white Maxima, NXT is very pleasing. Looks a lot like #20, but has a more intense glow to it, whereas #20 was a softer glow. Reflections seem clearer. Slickness, even after 24 hours, feels pretty much the same as #20 (which to me is slick). So far I like it.

I'm doing a side vs side test on my rims with NXT on driver's side and #20 on passenger side. #20 does very well at making my rims easy to clean, but I want to see if NXT can keep them cleaner. I did side vs side instead of front vs rear so it will be a more fair comparison (my rear rims don't get dirty at all, my fronts dust a bit. This way I'll have one of each for direct comparison).

Dave

He actually liked the smell, but I'll tell him what you said it smells like lol hopefully this weekend I'll have the time to do his car and see how it looks on the metallic charcoal :bounce

Your product is very good. I'm actually going to pick up a bottle when it comes available here. After putting a coat on the black Stratus with zero prep (ugh, winter is still lurking around here, it was just a quick coat), I conclude that maybe it just does nothing for metallic paint, or nothing can do anything for metallic paint.

However, the smell. THE SMELL OF NXT IS BAD. It makes me itch. I itch all over. My garage smells like a French prostitute. This is not the type of image I want to portray to the neighbors.

Please, if you are reading, please do something about the smell.

Sincerely,

Corey

Hi Corey,

Tell you what... I will print this thread out and stop by the Vice President of R&D's office and show it to him.

While you and everyone is entitled to their opinion, (and he respects that), at the same time, in the big picture it was decided to give Tech Wax a scent.

Sorry you don't like it, I'm sure it's just a personal preference thing. I know the scent that was chosen was selected out of over 500 different scents. So while it doesn't appeal to you... it's not like it smells like rotten eggs or something worse.

The fact be known, the scent used for NXT Tech Wax is a combination of Key Lime Pie and Jujubes

Sure, they could have given it a cherry scent and made the masses happy, but instead, they used their creative liberty to create a new and unique scent that would endure...

If it's really a problem, I could use what little political capital I have with the chemists and ask them to make you a modified version of Lab Sample C (i.e. before a scent was included but with the other characteristics that came with Lab Sample D & E included).

I'm never afraid to ask, but I cannot guarantee a "Yes" answer.

Like Dad always said, "If you don't ask... the answer is always "No"

As for me... I like it... so did these guys...

It seems like the overall majority of people like the smell here. :nixweiss I'll manage. Maybe if the scent weren't as strong? Just an itty bitty tiny bit less potent?

Miss Swan's dog on MadTV is named Jujube. ;)

:nixweiss Maybe they had 'smell-a-vision' when they had that game show skit with French prostitutes on Saturday Night Live (Garth Brooks was in the skit). :p

A little OT, but wasn't that the same night he was Garth Brooks, and "Chris Gaines"??? Funny, that was over 10 years ago already...

I just put a layer of NXT on one of my summer wheels that was just replaced in prep for spring installation.. Then I went outside ( 20F ) to work on my exhaust. When I came back in my basement shop the smell of the NXT was rather refreshing. Usually my shop smells like something I just cut up or was grinding on or oil.

My vote .. I like the smell of it.

I used NXT again today. I remembered this thread, and the fact that I didn't recall the smell the last time I used it. So today I was outside and sniffed the bottle. I thought I detected a tiny smidgen of lime, but that's it (I don't know what Jujube's are). Did I get a defective bottle? Or is my sense of smell going with my advanced age? I have no problem smelling other things; I used DACP today and I really like its smell. If I got a defective bottle, would Meg's send me a new one for free (Mike Phillips, are you listening? ;) )?

On a side note, I am liking it more and more each time I use it. It gives my white an intense glow/reflections other products don't (#20 is close, but not as intense). My wife even commented on it, so there must be an apparent difference! However, I think #20 applies a little easier; NXT seems to grab my paint instead of glide like butter. It's not hard to apply, but #20 glides exceptionally smooth. If durability is reasonable, NXT will be my choice from now on.

As for the ongoing test of #20 and NXT on my rims, there have been no apparent changes to either. But it's only been a day or two!

If you talk nice maybe Mike will send you a fragrance or a jujube :xyxthumbs

Reminds me of an old joke about the guy that didn't think his f*rts smelled till the doctor fixed his nose and ears etc ....

Knowing your jokes, I'm sure this one would violate forum rules. ;)

I like the smell a lot. I always wax my car in the garage and now that I use NXT I find myself closing the garage door too just to keep the smell in. I even roll the windows down hoping for the smell to leech into the fabric inside. Then I could smell it all the time. :)

Like Dave Holmes, I have an arctic pearl white Maxima, and the NXT has been the best wax I have used. The smell is just an added bonus.

i'm the same with white95max. I think it smells great. After waxing, my gf asked me what new lotion I was using, cause it smelled so good!

I don't understand why a thread about the smell of a product would get this many replies. I don't eat or drink my detailing products so I don't care how they smell.
