Dealership washed my car yesterday...

We just had the front end of my wife's Explorer re-painted because we got in a very minor accident and I just told them to respray the entire front because the paint wasn't what it used to be. I told them NOT to wash the rest of the car. Of course they didn, but luckily and VERY surprisingly no marring. Phew!

I feel your pain, I've seen plenty of BMW's go into the dealer clean then leave with water spots and dried lines of water where it came out of the panels while driving. I've always requested "no detail" which they write on the ticket and I've never had a problem.

I also request no detail when I purchase a new car. I've heard of people using the signs for BMW, hopefully it will work for you and one of the good things is you'll get out of there faster :D

^^I agree.

Please, do not wash / No laves, por favor.

I would be absolutely furious with the dealership. Seriously, how dirty are our cars when we bring them in for service? I bring my car in clean, hoping they'll see it doesn't NEED to be washed.

And since my X5 is going on for service on Wed, and I spend 10 hours detailing it today, they are bound to wash it. But hey, its okay, "they have soft-cloth wash"

Yeah, I do that too. Having them write it on the work order seems to work well. Of course you gotta watch that some twit doesn't decide to do it all on his own, but fortunately most dealership guys aren't looking for more work to do.

What, a dealer that did not instill swirls!

This is not autopia...

I am not reading this...

I need to wake up, I must be dreaming...

Back in the '90s, Stoddard Imported Cars (my Porsche/Audi dealer) had a prep guy who did a *great* job. I let him wash my vehicles, even let him detail some new Audis I bought there. But then he finished grad school and went on to his real career, and now they're as bad as any other dealership.

Print a few of these and keep them in the car.

I have a laminated copy in each car that goes to any dealership and it gets stuck to the dashboard before the car is turned over to the service department.

I just had that situation with my black Lexus with a little rear quater panel damage, except they did not wash it--THEY WIPED IT DOWN WITH A CHAMOIS! It was a disaster--and they were so proud--they told me they even use a brand new chamois.

That will buff out easily (from what I can tell in teh photos), but still, it didn't have to be polished before you went there.

Making signs is ok, but you are better of not going at all. I think they overcharge at dealers, unless it is warranty work (or that free maint).

I know what y'all mean. I always keep a "please do not wash" sign in my car. But of course the oooooone time I forget... :(

Not to mention my car is always just-waxed and spotless whenever I bring it in. Why oh WHY must they always try to wash it anyway?!

rrrrrrrrgggh.:nixweiss

they probably use a car wash MOST dealerships do....i always request DO NOT WASH....i have worked for a few dealerships ....in fact i work at a BMW dealership now and i cringe at the car wash ....most people have no clue what it does to their car....i told them all those scratches are from the car wash....i am the ONLY real detailer at this dealership ...

Speaking of Dealerships, I pick up my new mazada 3.. Gray in color and just really nice. They offered me this paint sealant/ protection that I chose not to buy through them.. It was Xzilon.. Anyone heard of it?? I think I have, But I would to buy it my self and apply it my self. :waxing:

Can I do that and How can I get a hold of this stuff and if I can't, is there a sub for that product..

thanks:2thumbs:

why do you want that product?

i guarantee you that there are many other products out there that are far better than dealership crap sealant.

It looks like the only way it can be procured is through an Authorized Auto Dealership.

Xzilon FAQ page

But I agree with the other statements. It won't be the "superior" finish that's promised by the dealership. You can do a better job with other products that aren't as proprietary and don't make such grand claims.
