Dealer installed scratches

I took my black 2000 Jetta to the dealer for some recall work. When I picked it up[dusk] I walked around the car to check for any damage. When I put it in my garage, I noticed two nasty scratches running along the hood. Yes, I kicked myself for not noticing at the dealer. I've used a PC for two years, and I knew this was more serious than the PC could easily manage. I just bought a cheap rotory and decided to try it out with a white pad, and Menzerna FP. [Rotory experienced, but many years ago.] After three attempts, I have it about 90%+ improved. I ran the machine on 3[fairly tame], but to my surprise I saw what appeared to be smoke as the FP was being worked. I used light pressure above the machine weight, and slight angle- not flat. I saw this "smoke" on all three repair attempts. I tried adding more FP to the pad and same thing happened. It was not steam from my angry ears.

The polished area was not very warm. Should I have washed a new white pad first? Is this normal? The machine was quite hot after 15 min. Shure I could have taken it back and griped, but I hate the thought of returning my car to those idiots. They also botched the recall work.

The "smoke" sounds very out of the ordinary. All I can say is if you are uncomfortable continuing using the FP with the rotary and since you got 90% of it out so far, switch to the PC to finish up the job.



I would make the owner of the dealership very aware of the unacceptable repair and damage done to your car. When one brings a car in for service, it is expected the repair be done properly the first time and absolutely nothing like damage of any kind happen to the car.



I would send a certified letter to the dealership owner as well as Volkswagen USA. A good paper trail is probably the best chance at any rectification.

happened to me at a an audi dealership. I flipped out because I told them not to wash it! They gave me a free service (tire rotation, oil change, fluids). I noticed it as soon as I went up to the car.

I would use AIO and SG to hide them. Sonus Paint Cleaner, light polish, AIo will smooth them out so they won't get worse.

bad news that, i tell them not to touch my car ever !!!, when i went to pick up my new car the valeter was washing the new cars down with a dirty cotton cloth !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the responses. Turns out the smoke was from my cheap rotory that overheated from running at slow speed. Scary poor quality, but it's use will be rare. I complained to the dealer and told them why they will receive a poor rating when the survey call comes. [very important to them] I didn't want them to "fix" anything.

No matter the dealer and no matter th reasom I take the service manager out on a walk around and I show him the car .. no scratches .. no dings .. no swirls and I point out the mods that are easily scoffed .. and we agree I will get it back this way .. and I clearly specify NO WASH!! and I leave a post it note to this effect on the steering wheel .. anal I know but I been burned before .
