De Tomaso Pantera by Esoteric Auto Detail

Such a beautiful car and a beautiful job! The gloss is remarkable!

One of my previous professors has one of these too.

Nice right up Todd. That was a pretty cool car. That yellow really brightens up huh. That car looked like it had a few paint issues, its a bummer you didn't get a chance to correct them all. Another nice job from a great guy! Keep it up. Nice to see ya posting over here again finally. Go Penn State!!!!!

Thanks Barry! Yeah, this is one of those cars that you could easily spend 30-40 hours on but you would make it better than new and it would lose its rough originality.

I had access to 50 yard line, 50 rows up tickets for PSU v OSU (at face value), but I have to be in Reno that weekend for a meeting. :(

Nice work Todd! I agree with Barry on the write up. I always enjoy reading them. Keep up the good work!

Thanks.

Love those cars. We have a couple that show up to the local car meets every week. Very unique and all around cool cars.

Bob...yeah, these are quite unique for sure, and I love the sound.

Looks awesome! Paint came up great considering the difficulties.

Is that small louvered section (behind the rear quarter windows) the air intake for the engine? If so, how does it manage to breathe?

Thanks. It looks louvered, but it actually isn't. The back is open (where it looks like a window should be) so the engine can breathe freely.

Looking at these cars has always been fun... Just realized that the new Camaro instrument panel was directly influenced by this car.

Thanks for posting this here, I enjoyed it... All except for your sweat shirt :bat:nana:

Thanks. UM fans are out in full force in this thread! :)

Awe....nothing like the sound/feel of a V8 a few inches from your back! :D

Always loved those cars....nice to see your work on Autopia again too Todd! :thx

Thanks Chad. Most vehicles have the motors isolated from the driver, whereas this one puts it in your lap!

Awesome work as usual Todd. Pretty cool car. I had never seen one of those before reading this thread.

Oh...and most importantly...Go Bucks! We'll just pretend Saturday never happened.

I figured there would be some people that hadn't seen one before...not a common car.

What, did something happen on Saturday that I should know about? :wall

Pantera cars rock, Pantera the band rocks and Todd you's rockin' like Dokken... with Pantera as the opening band of course :). Nice one mate!

Jesse you're a riot...like Quiet Riot...who I saw in concert way back when my forehead wasn't so tall...when they opened for AC/DC! Good times, goooood times. :D

See ya. :wavey

These are one of my favorite cars from my youth. I had the obligatory poster on the Lamborghini Countach and the Pantera. At my kids school, I met a father of another student (obviously well off) that just bought an identical color/combo as this one. Love the car's profile and excellent work as always!

Thanks. That's cool that you had the poster if it. My 9 year old son is starting off with the exotic car posters in his room as well! :)

Todd you got me tired man - you keep raising the bar higher and higher, changing what it means to be a "pro" with your beautiful pictures, great cars, and informative write-ups. Thanks for sharing and glad to see things are well in Ohio....as long as Purdue isn't around ;) (no need to be mad, you guys still have the Big Ten's best team over the last 10 years)

A lot of kind words there my friend...thank you very much. I should have some cool cars coming up over the winter.

Yep, it was a frustrating weekend for sure, but I guess we can't complain too much about just 1 or 2 losses per year.

My mechanic has a 72 with the cleveland sounds real good but runs even better. Will see about some pictures next time I am home.

Nice! Yes, these things sound wicked and are pretty fast too!

Thanks Mike! How are things in Indy?

Great job on one of my all time favorite classics!!! Is this an original yellow car? Can you post some engine pics? One of the things I loved most about these cars was the ability to easily fit a huge rear tire under it. Made them look so tough.

David...thanks! I believe it is an original yellow, but there's definitely paint on it that didn't come from the factory...it's had some work. Unfortunately I didn't take the liner out to get engine shots, but I'll be seeing this car plenty over the winter since it will be in storage at the shop. They definitely put some serious rubber underneath these cars for sure!

Can I crash in your garage?! Nice lil detail and car. That yellow certainly pops with the Optimum products. I LOVE my optimum!

If so, I'll put you to work! :) I like that about Optimum...easy to use with great results.

Hey man, not bad!!

DJ...not bad? Come on man, you can do better than that! :grinno: Hey, how's that NSX coming along?

Looks great, Todd! New shop?

Aaron...thanks. I am still working out of the garage, but also do work for a local independent Ferrari shop now (as seen in the photos). I won't know what to do with myself having heating/air conditioning, lots of space, and my own lift!

Thank you...must be a popular car for the professor-types!

TSC great work

:bounce

Thanks!

A good friend of mine, his father owns a pantera, with an 8.7L stroker motor from a lincoln :) that thing hauls major ***.

Nice job, you weren't kidding about the gloss! :bow

I used to see a few Panteras running around the Phoenix area into the mid 80s, always wanted one despite the found on road dead drive-train. :p

Thank you.

Beautiful. I've just had confirmation of 1 definite and possibly 2 of these for a Motorshow in July www.speedshow.co.nz One a red and grey 2 tone with the Spoiler kit and a black one without the kit so I'm pretty stoked.

I'd appreciate any tips in case these things have any strange quirks I should know about. Working in front of a crowd is fun but it can rattle the nerves a bit.

Otherwise I guess I'm in the right place, 'Search' just pulled up a thread on 'Tips for working on old cars'

Whoot...

Sounds like fun.

Like many cars that came out of Italy (especially from that era), the paint is less than stellar. Many times it doesn't match, there are pre-burned edges, very thin spots, etc, etc. I would be very liberal with taping the edges and any other potentially dangerous areas, and don't try to chase too many defects. You're not going to get this stuff perfect! Patience, and knowing when to say when are the keys on vehicles like these. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for that, Liberal taping is always good at demo's even if the cars are risk free I reckon, One of the other threads mentioned using Meg #80 and thats probably quite a good idea too. I might step back from the usual #105 for a couple of days.

The red one is quite original I believe so the paint could be quite thin in spots but I think the black one has probably been painted although I'm yet to see either of them.

There's a very faint outside chance of a Versace Lambo being available also but it's a long shot. I've worked on it before though and it's pretty mint already.
