Daytona Speed brush alternative

Well I heard they break and the smaller of the two I have just did. I like the fact that it's flexible, but honestly, it didn't have that much use.

Any recommendations for alternatives?

LaMarque- For what, cleaning the barrels of wheels? I retired my EZ Brushes/etc. because they didn't work all that well anyhow and now.

(Pardon how crappy the following links look, but they seem to be working OK at least for now.)

I use these: Welcome To Quickie.com (be careful regarding the steel core!!) or these: Five Foam Swabs - Cleaning Tools - Wheels & Tires - Car Care - Griot's Garage or these: Two Micro Fiber Wheel Wands - Cleaning Tools - Wheels & Tires - Car Care - Griot's Garage. But many times I can just reach in there with a small mitt (like this: Lambskin Four-Finger Mitt - Griot's Garage, which I need to do when cleaning the back sides of the spokes anyhow. I simply *love* that little mitt, even though when I first ordered one I thought it'd just be some worthless gimmick that I'd never use.

I've tried the EZ brush for my wheels too and have switched to the Wheel Woolies, an equivalent to the microfiber wheel wands offered by Griot's. They work like a champ. They don't break, they fit into big and small places and they don't sling product when withdrawn too quickly.

They're just the perfect wheel cleaner.

Good call Accumulator and I'm thinking about that little lambskin mitt.

Got most of those. The Quicky looks interesting tho. But yeah, the barrels. A friend of mine has a scissor lift I can have which might make that easier. My business is just starting to get a following and most of my work has been daily drivers and they wouldn't pay to have the wheels removed.

Woolies are great. Just a lot of work to get the wheels cleaned with them. My mitt's been sitting on the shelf. Guess it's time to make use of it.

Eh, then you oughta be all set IMO. I still have a few EZ's, but I primarily use 'em for undercarriage stuff on the beaters, so I don't think you're at some huge loss without them. Really, it always seems that I have something better for the job (i.e., wheel barrels), but that's just me and I know some people really like 'em :nixweiss

The Quicky looks interesting tho..

Note that they seem to die pretty fast (cheap foam?) and that steel wire core really *IS* something you have to watch out for. Plus, they're too thick to fit between the calipers and the rims on many vehicles. Still, I really do like 'em (I buy a bunch at a time) and find they're also very handy for wheelwells/etc. Did I mention that you have to be careful with the steel core?!? ;)

That brand isn't sold locally so I'll have to break down and make a trip to wally world and look for something similar.

....I purchased my 2nd and last EZ Detail brush. My first one lasted quite a while before breaking but the core in my 2nd one bends like a wet noodle with little pressure. It makes it quite difficult to use at times (my first one seemed much stiffer).

I have always had my eye on the Wheel Woolies but the price seemed steep for a product I wasn't sure if I would like and/or that would last. I never noticed the MF ones from Griots and at $17, how can you go wrong? I'm glad I came across this thread.

Much to my surprise I was never able to find some decent subsitute locally, ended up ordering a large quantity of 'em online (IIRC directly from Quickie).

wow i can't beieve you guys would prefer those tools over the daytona. i've got mine 2 yrs and it works great. sorry to hear you're having issues with it.i'm trashing those brushes mind you i'm sure they do a great job.

....even with my first one which had a stiffer core I was not entirely satisfied with it. The sling from the bristles when extracting the brush from some spokes was quite annoying.

It works for me but I guess I would say I don't feel its one of tools in my arsenal I would necessarily miss. ....or couldn't see improving upon. When I find a decent alternative, I will likely still use it for some things. You can never have enough brushes. :)

EDIT: I should note that the brush I'm speaking of is the EZ Detail Brush and not the Daytona. I don't know how similar they are in relation to the core strength, bristles, etc. My firs EZD was purchased before the company released the Daytona. ....and my second was after.
