Dawn and 50/50 Alcohol

Have to factor in the Prepsol or its equivalent too. I assume yes, they do similar things, Dawn is most practical (for those who have no issue with using it in detailing) for washing down the entire car to free it of wax and sealant while the IPA is best suited for remvoing wax or fillers in between polishing steps via spray bottle. I think I'm going to give the Prespol type product a try both as a substitute for Dawn and IPA, I wonder if it will remove wax, sealant, polish fillers better/more effectively

Yeah, it kinda depends on what you're doing and the condition of the car after polishing.

Sometimes after an extensive rotary session, the car is covered in dust, splatter, and whatever that washing is the most practical thing to do. But usually the car is not too bad so an alky/water wipedown is fine. Prepsol (or similar) will strip off virtually everything so use it if that's what you want.

These in-between steps are really a judgement call. Use whatever works for you.

Prepsol or a wax and grease remover is the best way to remove all waxes and sealant. Wipe on with one towel, wipe off with another turning to a fresh area frequently. Much better than dawn. Some of the amino functional type products will stick around even after a dawn wash. Alcohol is a great way to check to see if your polish contains hiding agents or if it really is removing the scratches you thought it was. Neither wax and grease remover or alcohol will really hurt the paint. Be careful with the IPA, it's not a good lubricant so it's easy to put more scratches with the towel.
