Damn trucks!

On the way into work yesterday a dump truck kicked up a big stone and it nailed the right front fender of my car and it was two lanes over. It hit with such a bang it neary made me jump out of mee skivees! Now there is a nice chunk taken out of the paint....about the size of a pee. It's right down to bare metal and I know I need to get some touh up on there pronto to keep rust from forming but I'm the worlds worst at touch ups. I avoid touch up jobs like the plague since almost without fail, I make it look more noticeable then if left alone. I have no choice though on this one since it is down to metal.

I picked up a Mother's Touch Up Kit (Langka system under Mother's label) and will give that a try.

I can certainly empathize.

About a month ago I had a big truck kick up a rock and puncture my radiator. All of my coolant leaked out and within a few miles my temperature gauge was pegged. The replacement radiator was about $225. :wait

I drive a lot on the interstates here in AL, and they roads are always under construction. Rock chips suck. I think trucks should have more protection than just two worn out mudflaps. It really sucks that we strive hard to protect our cars and it can get chipped up by an old beater dump truck or semi. What can be done?

I feel your pain. A few weeks ago, a baseball hit our Exploder as my hubby was driving home from work. He said he saw it coming out of the corner of his eye, but he was boxed in and couldn't move out of the way. Miraculously, it impacted directly on the left windshield wiper shattering the wiper blade housing but completely avoiding any paint or glass. Close call!

That's what you get for driving on the baseball fields Marj! LOL Seriously, that is a close call. It could have been a very bad scene had it hit the windshield square on.

I figure this is payback for when I was a kid and my friends and I used to bean cars with snowballs.

I sure do know your pain! Sorry to hear that happened to you Natty.

I got hit by a bird just a week or so ago. The poor thing splattered blood all over my truck and window. It didn't hurt the truck any, hit right on the black strip at the base of my driver's window, but it certainly killed the poor bird.

But if you want a rock story, many years ago, a rock was thrown up and hit the drivers door of my car. It was very loud and startled me to say the least. What size rock? Dunno. But the dent and surrounding damage was the size of a softball and scrapes and quite deep. You'd have to have seen it to believe how bad it was. It actually sounded like someone hit the door with a sledgehammer.

Sometimes I get the urge to carry some good size rocks with me in the truck and when one of these trucks throws out crap from the back of their beds while their glaring sign says "Not responsible for causing damage to your vehicle" well you know what they say, when they do hit me, I feel like driving by them and chucking one of my hand-picked beauties right back at 'em. I wouldn't of course, but boy do I feel like it sometimes. Of course if I did do it, I would hang a sign from my back window "Not respsonsible for objects exiting this truck back at your truck"!!

Ouch.......... that sucks Natty! Fortunately, you have a white vehicle............. they touch up pretty well.

LOL.... My brother drives a Semi and happend to see this thread opened on my computer-- his response was Damn Lil #$%^ cars -- they cut me off, drive in my blind spots, talk on the phone --- rgggh #$%^ him and his chip .... LOL

Personally, I feel for ya though -- even if my brother says it serves you right. If you fray a paper match stick at its base, it makes a super nice applicator for the touch-up paint. It allows you to dab it on one droplet at a time and can be modified allowing for either pin point or big glob and anywhere in between.

After placing a droplet in the center of the chip, I use a round toothpick to place the paint within the chip ... You can modify the end of the toothpick if needed with a file or sandpaper.
I also use a magnifying glass to help see what I am doing (its that age thing)

I use to drive a tanker truck (heating and diesel fuel) so I know what your brother is saying. I'm no dummy and don't make a habit of crowding vehicles that outweigh mine by 20 tons. I was in th eleft lane and the dump truck was two lanes over but ahead of me. A few more seconds and I would have been well past him.

Thanks for the match stick tip. And thanks to Kimwallace for the tip on using a toothpick after the matchstick. If we get a break in the rain this weekend I'll give it a shot. I may just let my father do it. He's a pro at touchups.

Oh know that well!

I was behind a truck one day and you see a nice size pebble leave the truck, bounce several times and as if it was magnetic, jump right on the hood or fender with that nice loud BANG. SOB!, Pull over to inspect any damage. Whew, hit the Armorglove and left a mark on the film.

Company car looks like a lunar landscape! Sand, rocks, salt etc all have some magnetic properties for that car! I'm always behind trucks or landscape vehicles with that mower just being supported by the thin rope (more like twine) across the back. Mower? what mower? Oh crap... as I try to dodge it, but maybe my hood needed a trim? It got the corner of the hood. of coarse no one now could speak English, till the police got there. Oh they spoke it well enough then! Told police, no big deal it's a company car. If it was the Lexus, well very different story..
