Daily-driven 2009 Acura MDX gets the Blackfire treatment...

This is my daily-driven '09 MDX in Billet Silver Metallic. Silver seems to be the hardest color to capture good pictures of (at least for me) but here goes anyway.

Note: After completing the car last night I realized I had mis-applied the Blackfire Wet-Ice-over-Fire kit (I didn't provide sufficient cure time for the Wet Diamond sealant prior to applying Midnight Sun 'nuba wax). I guess next time I'll be more careful :wall

Process:

Washing:

  • Detail wash (around emblems, trim pieces, jambs, etc)
  • Foam bath with Dawn (2x)
  • Wash with Dawn (to complete removal of old waxes)

Clay:

  • Light Clay bar (Griot's Clay & Griot's Speed Shine as lubricant)

Polish:

  • Griot's Machine Polish 3 applied via Griot's 6" and 3" RO polishers

Sealant:

  • Blackfire Wet Diamond applied by hand

Wax:

  • Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba paste wax applied by Griot's 6" & 3" machines

I didn't take as many photos as I would have liked, but here are a few shots of the process and the final results.

All taped up and ready for polish:

The polishing weapons (also used but not pictured is the Griot's Garage 3" Random Orbital):

Patiently working the Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3:

Working in a topcoat of Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax (Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant was already applied at this point):

And the same panel after buffing the 'Nuba to a pleasant shine:

Good work on the MDX -- looks very sharp!

I'm using Blackfire on my Millenium Silver Metallic Lexus GS430, and it definitely gives it a nice finish.
