DACP question

Ok, i did a search but didn't find anything so here is my question.

What are the main differences in using DACP with a PC on a Single Stage paint vs. a clear coat?

So far all I have worked on are my vehicles and a couple of friends but they have all been clear coat.

I know the color gets lifted into the pads when working on a SSP but that's about all I know. When this happens, are the pads no longer useable or does the color come out after cleaning?

What year did Clear Coat become common on factory paint jobs?

The reason I ask is that my dad is driving a 99 Escort and I wanted to see if I could help it look better. I am not sure if it has clear coat or not.

Basecoat clear became common in the mid-late 1980s, with a few examples before that. I know *nothing* about Escorts, but I'd bet it's b/c, almost every domestic car was by the mid-90s (can't even think of any that weren't, except for some truck lines).

No real difference in how to use stuff like DACP with ss. The staining on the pads has never a) completely come out, or b) caused any trouble for me.

Some ss really responds well to products like Meg's #7, but other than that I generally treat b/c and ss the same.

97 Mazda Miatas did not have CC......I believe by 99, nearly all Major imports and domestics had CC. Although to date, there are some Toyotas being mfg'd that for some reason, do not have a CC. Your best bet is using a small amt of polish in a small area to confirm or deny the presence of a CC.

Yeah, Lexus has used a (rather thin) ss too, but as best I can recall the domestic makers are sticking with b/c.

Nothing quite like the look of good ss paint though, IMO.

Russel .. if you have some AIO try that onthe SS paint before the DACP .. it might suprise you how much it cleans it up and lifts a lot of issues with the oxidization.

I did a 87 Volvo ss that looked like it needed a lot and AIO did all it needed.
