DACP Haze Tan Lines (Pics inside)

Well.. to illustrate the difficulty that I've been having with my Audi, here's some pictures. What bothers me the most is the fact that I have tan lines where the masking tape covered the seams and the edge ofthe clear bra. Note the better looking surfaced (the taqped off surface) received pi3mg/gepc/p21s two weeks before. The bad/hazed surface recieved DACP(yellow)/pi3mg(white)/gepc(hand)/p21s.

Now you understand why I"m pretty upset. I've used DACP in teh past also, and this has never happened, so I'm not sure what went wrong. My approach will be to try the Menzerna twins. Any sugggestions apprecatied.

Right now I'm pretty pessimistic about how this will turn out. What's worse is that there is a big (1000 car) show in Santa Barbara in a few weeks. So this weekend is my last chance (hopefully Menzerna will arrive by then).

Oh boy, oh boy.... Several things come to my mind :o

Have you tried wiping with Alcool/water 50/50 on those sections? have you tried AIO in a small section?

What polishes do you have by hand now?

JGV: I'll try the alchohol water mixture at some point soon...It appears when I look at it with the 20x magnifying lens to be very fine swirls.

I have on hand DACP, PI3MG, SMR, GEPC, AIO, IHG, and Meguiars Hand glaze.

Menzerna is on the way. I don't think it'll be something that AIO can correct.

I got rid of my glaze after reading here and seeing first hand that it only temporarily fills the swirls. Yeah, AIO is most likely going to be the next to last step product.

Hope things work out for you

I've been trying to identify other factors also that may have affected it. Did I not use enough DACP? Did I polish when it was too cold out (temp was low 60s)? Did I work it in too much (avg of 8 passes)? Did I work it in too large an area? (typically 2x3' sections)? Did I not put enough pressure on it? Ist my PC not working correctly? Too high a speed (i set it on 5)? I don't know.

I don't know. If the menzerna IP/FP doesnt get here fast enough, I'll probably have to try DACP with white pad.

Sorry for all the posts and thanks for all the suggestions, but in all my years of detailing, I haven't had this problem.

It could be fine swirls filled with DACP residues, so the 50/50 test. As said in the other thread, the yellow cutting pad will leave marks of it's own. As AIO is mostly a cleaner it would show a difference if that was the case.

I thing you have what it takes to take care of the job, it's not the Menzernas that will preform miracles.

Try cleaning with 50/50 or aio and if it doesn't satisfy you, use a polishing pad and with DACP work the surface until you feel it's starting to dry, then remove. If it's hard to remove use watter, QD, whatever. If it's not good yet, do it again.

When you feel It's great, switch to another polishing pad and go over it with the PI3MG, working until it starts to dry, then remove.

Try in a small section now, and tell how it went.

Here's my take on it.

DACP starts out as a pretty aggressive compond in my experience, and finishes out to something similar to #9. I agree with the others when they say that marring is really created by the yellow pad.

In my experience PI-III isn't any more abrasive than something like #9, it just has no fillers. PI-III with a white pad for me is pretty useless. I would do what others have done and try the white pad with the DACP.

And that varies by car. On some paints (VWs, Fords, Mazdas to name a couple) DACP polishes out perfect with a yellow pad. It hazes up my Lexus just like that, but it does remove the swirls.

neoprufrok DACP and a yellow pad did the same on my B5.5 ( L'll bigger Audi) It was the yellow pad. I didn't have the Kini lines as I didn't use the tape but I stopped at body panels. I dropped the yellow pad and went to the meguiars purple pad and Menzerna IP followed by Menzerna FP and a white pad.

Since then I have shelved the DACP / yellow pad but for problem mars.

The DACP / yellow may be fine on lighter cars but created an extra step this time using it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Look likes this weekend will be Menzerna time. I just got the twins.. hopefully they'll diminish some of this hazing.

So annoying and happens with so many polish's!!!! ARGH, I hate it.

A nice 5 minute session of Klasse AIO will remove that stuff and leave the surface looking like it was just waxed and all you did was get rid of the micro marring and clean the paint to prep for the wax/sealent. It'll do all of that you barely have to rub it onto the paint, put it on easily, very thin, no dry time, just remove it right after (comes off like silk) and you'll be amazed.

I honestly can't detail without Klasse AIO, it has so many uses.

Neo,

Where are you located?

I know this won't be agreed upon, but many guys like Ketch and Bud will state that swirls and webbing can only be really removed with a rotary and a swirl remover, or cutter because you have to level the edges causing the unsightly marks. I wonder what Anthony and Jose would do with these marks?

Thanks,

Robert Regan

I totall don't agree that swirls can only be removed with a rotary. I've removed more than enough swirls with a PC to know thats untrue. What about Scott who removes them by hand?

A rotary may make it easier, but the only way? Nah.

I’ve had mixed results with PI-3MG. It often leaves hazing, and I’m guessing that it is due to not generating enough heat with the PC. I have had excellent results using AIO on a white pad to remove the hazing.

Good luck and have fun!
