Cyclo with Optimum Hyper compound Help

Hello,

Today was a nice day, and I finally got a chance to detail my car. I have an Acura TSX so the paint is pretty soft. I used OHC with cyclo and the results were not too good. Most of the swirls are still there, and I worked the OHC for a long period of time. Im not sure what I am doing wrong. For those who use the cyclo, what are your normal procedures? Overall, I am not impressed with OHC. I had to work it really long to remove any swirls. I tried the cyclo orange pads and the sonus yellow pads, but I could not remove most of the swirls. Someone please help. I am thinking of moving to Menzerna line of polish.

Your pad choice is likely too aggressive. Step down to a polishing pad and give it another go. I have had great success with OHC and the Cyclo with green polishing pads(both Cyclo and Propel pads).

I'm afraid your swirls are deeper than you may think if OHC & Orange/yellow pads aren't touching them. Sounds like you have a job requiring a rotary. You can get the job done with a DA, but you're gonna have to spend a lot of time doing it. I wouldn't recommend going any stronger than OHC with a DA. You might have to do OHCx2 or even 3 times to get them all out...don't need to work the OHC forever the first time or two as the compound will get less and less aggressive the more you work...just work it a long enough to break down completely the last time.

I've removed swirls on my black Cobra with OHC w/polishing pad and a PC. The swirls must be a lot deeper than you think. You should be able to get them out with the arsenal of pad and product you are working with. Maybe you aren't applying enough pressure maybe. Maybe you need to go over it with a little bit slower passes...

How much pressure do u guys apply when using the cyclo? I dont really apply too much pressure at all. That could be a problem. I lightly held the cyclo and placed it over the paint. Could that be a problem?

You should apply enough pressure that the machine will bog a little. With the Cyclo it holds pressure a lot better than a PC. Next time, apply pressure until the machine bogs, then lift slightly... And also run over the section with slower passes.

Yes, pad choice is very important so after your orange pads use white or green. When you get a uniform appearance in the paint (an even haze) then use either the orange pads again but this time OCP instead of OHC or go OCP and white pads/green pads....but always finish out with white pads.

And yes you need to apply pressure when doing some compounding with the Cyclo, Cobra gave a great example of how to go about that.

I also make my passes very slow....I am able to build up a slight amount of heat using the Cyclo, pressue and a slow steady movement. What you did most likely was introduce more marring rather than remove it.

Try it again following the tips you have been given here.

its sounds like micromarring from the compound/pad combo. Follow with a less aggressive pad and polish and see how it looks.

thanks for all the help guys. Ill try to do as suggested here in a week or so. I did follow up OHC with Prime, so there is little or no hazing. I think my mistake was not applying any pressure at all while using the OHC. Ill give it another go soon!

So regular PRIME will remove hazing?

I was thinking of going with PRIME STRONG to remove haze?

Let me know and good luck with the next try...
