Cyclo VES upgrade

So I decided to update my Cyclo with the new VES counter weights, I was first going to attempt the upgrade myself but after watching the video on Cylco's site I decided it was more involved then I wanted to deal with. I contacted the cyclo office and spoke with Erik Jeffries I told him that I had purchased the new counter weights and wanted to have them installed by the factory. He explained to me that that was not a problem and upon discovering that I exclusively use the edge 2000 pad system, suggested that I might want to simply return the new counter weights as there may not be a large improvement with the edge pads. I was delighted to have a company try to save me money rather then take it, even after our conversation I decided to go ahead with the upgrade and sent my machine in.

I received my machine back within a weeks time and was pleasantly surprised to see that the good people at Cyclo had not only fitted the new counter weights but also upgraded my cord to the new improved model.

So I slapped a set of pads on and went to town on my test hood, did the VES counter weights improve the machine? Yes, vibration is slightly less then before. Was the upgrade necessary? No, just as Erik informed since I was already using the edge pads there was little need to spend the money for the VES.

Conclusions; while the VES is a nice upgrade to the Cyclo machine, it isn't really necessary for those using the edge pads on an old machine but it is a nice update to the cyclo machine for anyone looking to purchase a new unit. Better yet it's backed by a very honest and customer conscientious company. :bigups

I have found that with the Edge adapters there is very little vibration as well. I ordered the new weights, but realized the install was not that easy. I am glad you confirmed that I probably do not have to worry about installing them. I still believe the Cyclo is a great machine, but does not get hyped that much anymore like the others.

How about you people using the standard single-sided cyclo pads. Did you find any major differences upgrading to the VES version?

I was going to purchase the VES upgrade kit for my 1 year old Cyclo. When I realized they want you to make a special tool to do the upgrade I said fugg that. Cyclo toolmakers should absolutely furnish that tool for the price of the upgrade. I realize I could ship it back and have it done, but frankly that would cost weeks of downtime.

detailbarn- Thanks for posting that.

I never found the Cyclo's vibration to be a problem, and I'm pretty sensitive to that (the PC can be so terrible in that regard that sometimes I have to quit using it). I haven't gotten around to having the counterweights done on either of mine and I might put it off for a while longer based on your report.

And yeah, the folks at CycloToolmakers are great to work with. They absolutely do *not* try to sell you on stuff you don't need (when I sent in my older one for a going-over they said it didn't *really* require anything but I had them do some things anyhow). Quick turnaround IME too.
