Cut my finger...Stitches?

Josh, I hope from your description of tingling that you don't wind up with nerve damage from this. I have a big toe with weird sensations from a weird accident where a thin metal rod got hooked in my toe, but that's another story. It sounds like you'll recover fine, but you do realize of course that you'll have a much bigger scar and take a lot longer to heal. I had a similar incident once where my palm was sliced open while I was in Mexico. I was nearly broke, didn't relish the thought of getting medical treatment in a small Mexican town, and put off getting anything done until I got back to Arizona that night. The ER said it had been too long for stiches, but luckily I actually had first aid supplies with me on the trip and it healed fairly well.

Velobard,

The nurse said I may have cut a nerve but there was nothing they could do for me. I probably would have done more damage if the cut was vertical rather than on an angle so I am thankful for that! She said it may heal itself and if not I will continue to have a spot on my finger with tingling. eek! :)

Glad everything turned out OK. Tetanus was one of the most important aspects of the entire visit. Of course bleeding to death is also of consideration.

Thank you toyotaguy and flatstick for the well wishes - really appreciate it! :)[/QUOTE]

You are very welcome, just happy that it was not worse for you. those pics remind me of when a couple a years ago I cut my finger with the hedge trimmers :soscared: man I did not even want to look at the cut after I wrapped it in my shirt. still not sure how the heck I did it. the good news is that I lost some feeling in that tip of that finger for a couple of months but it did come back and it is still 100% :wavey

You must be a bleeder.... the way you made it sound I thought your fingertip was almost hacked. lol

I didnt even bleed that much when I did this while changing my valve springs on the SS... damn cast aluminum is SHARP!

I almost passed out with the little incident. lol

haha I figured it sounded worse typed rather than seeing the actual cut. Wow your cut looks pretty nasty!! I am definitely a bleeder. When I received my tetanus shot today the nurse couldn't get to a band aid fast enough. haha The blood had already started dripping down my arm when she turned around. I must be a girly man :faint: :rofl

Bleeding for 7 hours? Unless you are on a blood thinner medicaction like Coumadin, there may be an underlying medical problem. Definitly make an appointment with you physician and get some bloodwork done

Looking at his wound I feel need to re-emphasize Gonzo's recommandation, that wound is not big enough to keep on bleeding that long, unless you kept moving your fingers and those movements were breaking up coagulated blood. So, if that was not the case you definitely should listen to what Gonzo said.

Almost passed out? I can't believe you two. Neither one of these is a big deal.

... or you could be having a blood condition, like leukemia. See your physician.

35TH LE - mine was virtually identical to yours, same place too. Dust shield on a rotor. :/

Did you get that stitched?

No I didnt... I had a crab feed to go to that night and I wasnt gonna miss it. :D

Lots of bandaging and Neosporin.

Theres something about seeing my knuckle and actually SEEING how it works that kind of made me woozy. You cant really see it in that pic but my knuckle was fileted open... you could actually see the joint. Cuts and scrapes I can handle... when I see bone it makes me feel a little funny. :chuckle:

Don't make me go find the metrosexual post you made :D :rofl j/j

Were you distracted by a cute female who grabbed your attention while you were yielding a knife? You know you have to be careful during times as such. :chuckle:

I hope it's healing up well and hasn't caused too much grief for you. Next time don't hesitate to go get it checked out. Especially when you won't have to worry about any bills. Always better safe than sorry ;)

I know, I know, I just couldn't resist teasing you two :D I sometimes do that to the people because personally I have absolute zero reaction when such things happen to me.

Peripheral nerves sometimes can recover from damage like this, but not always. The toe I mentioned before still feels funny sometimes even several years down the road. If it gets to bugging you, read up on paresthesia. With my toe, I don't even notice it most of the time during the day, but just the weight of bed covers laying on it can be annoying. Weird.
