Customer Tracking

I am trying to develop some sort of database system to keep track of my customers, what services they've had done, when they were last seen, and when the next detail is coming up.

What does everyone else out there do? Any one use Excel or Access? I wanted to get some ideas from others out there.

I will be investing in FileMaker 7 very soon, I have a mac. Integrate the FM (invoicing, customer tracking etc.) with iCal and Address book and I'm in business. Quite a few options for a PC; if I remeber correctly, Quickbooks, Excel, Access, and one other are capable. HTH.

BTW, anyone using FM Pro 7 right now???

Quickbooks!!

I recommend Quickbooks from Intuit, the software takes care of everything, from invoices, bank accounts, deposits, prices, items, etc...As a second job I do some book keeping for companies in NY and I use Quickbooks a lot,for Mac or Windows, check it out!Intuit

If that's all the information you intend to collect, an Excel spreadsheet or two will get it done for you. If you want to capture more data and do more with the data, and have some Access programming, or VB programming knowledge, and some SQL skills, then you can come up with a pretty neat Access based system rather quickly.

Of course, if you don't have those skills, and don't want the hassle of learning that stuff, then the Quick Books package is a good one.

If you're a real glutton for punishment, and don't mind a lot of "sleepless" nights, you could also write a package from scratch with VB dot Net. :D

MAC's are #1 !!

If your on a MAC*, might I suggest Now Up-to-date. IMO the simpelist and easiest plug and go contact database management software, hands down -- other than having a full blown FM Database custom tailored to your needs and specs.

I think you might have just changed my mind on which SW to manage contacts. What are you using as an invoicing application, and are you just attaching each applicable invoice to the "related documents' filed on the contacts page?? Oh, and it's what, 1/3 the price of filemaker?!? I know the powers of Fm are very extensive but I am a bit intimidated by the capabilities without somesort of City College course to get me started on it. FM might not be worth the learning curve. :dunno

Thanks for the heads-up.
