Custom Tuners

Ouch! As a dubber - that made my eyes tear up. Sorry man! I don't know what can be done except cover it with some carbon fiber bits or something. My GTI just gets Optimum Protectant on the vy-nell and I've found Plexus works wonders on the clear plastic in front of the guages and the radio display, come to think of it, Plexus is great and hardly nobody ever mentions it here.

LOL! I know what you mean, man. Luckily that picture is not from one of my Dubs. My previous Golf and Beetle did look end up looking like that mess after making a few mistakes like trusting the wrong people with them. My '06 GTI and '09 Passat still look good as new on the inside thanks to good products like Megs Quick Interior Detailer. I have to look into Plexus...

It's not that VW guys are cheap. We know what can happen when an inexperienced detailer gets their hands on the interior of a Dub. Many novices will use harsh chemicals that melt away the nice "soft touch" coating like you see here. I won't let anyone touch my VW's anymore unless they are willing to pay to fix the damage they cause. Luckily, VW isn't using this coating on as many parts in their newer models...I wish they'd stop all together.

I have been in the VW scene for 10 years. I drive an 01 Jetta.

They are cheap to pay for proper work. I've given out so many business cards and NEVER received one call.

I am an experienced detailer. :)

^^^ Please post pics of your '01 Jetta. Oh wait a sec. Are you in Oregon? Funny how many of us dirty south dubbers in 105 degree weather get together to discuss the "soft touch" interior and how it is impacted in cooler climates. The result is anyone in cool, dry places typically does not experience the issues we South Floridians see on a daily basis with the V.W. interiors. All I can say to "tdekany" is put your money where your mouth is. Let's see how well you take care of your '01 Dub. Heat is our enemy. I will take whatever pic you place and raise it by a least 2 or 3 other pics on my nearly 70K mile GTI and show I have a cleaner ride than you...Are you game, biatch?

Well I don't know your name but I can tell you that you are a very good example of the "typical" vw scene. Vortex is full of them. Too young and ignorant. Your reply makes 0 sense. What is anything that you have said in your last post has to do with what I am saying?

I lived in VA before we moved to OR 1 year ago. Both places are the same.

"biatch" - what are you 2?

my nearly 70K mile GTI and show I have a cleaner ride than you

my 120k ride that has not been corrected in at least 2 years.

But as I said, your challange is mute. The bottom line is that if you pay for cheap details you get what you pay for.

But since you sound like a daring kind of guy: I GUARANTEE THAT I CAN CORRECT PAINT MUCH BETTER THAN YOU. WAY BETTER. I also guarantee that I can do an interior detail that is superior to what ever you can produce. How about that?

(ps - I work at least 6 days a week. The time I make off work is spent on my wife's car - here is the paint on her 11 year old vehicle, taken today)

Dude, you totally missed my point. I'll be "straight Dubbin" for 10 years deep this October. Please define "typcial VW Scene." I don't post on Vortex, so I have no clue as to what you're refering to...I have yet to see an interior pic of your ride....still patiently waiting... That's what my challenge was all about. I could care less about paint and exterior. You can't argue with me that many "Detailers" have no idea how to approach a ride as tight as a MkIV Jetta/ GLI/GTI/R32, etc. The point I'm trying to make is that there are "frauds" out there that will do whatever they can for a quick buck. Yes, I have fallen for them, and I have paid the price. Not anymore!!! I'm done letting my Dubs be the canvas to their destruction. Isn't that why we detailing enthusiasts are here in the first place? Prove me wrong, but I think we all have the same goal of getting the best results with the least amount of effort and cost. How else could we make a profit and get word of mouth referrals...Biatch???

Wraith, I believe you are just trying to have fun and playing around with tdekany, but you are just coming off as an arrogant *****. tdekany is one of the more respected members of this forum and his work has already been backed up. If you want to start a 'my dub is better than your dub' thread, then by all means go for it. I'm sure there are dozens of other Autopian members that would show you up.

Thank you for your input, Todd. You'll never catch me saying "my dub is better than your dub" on here or any forum. That's just childish. I'm simply trying to point how easily the interiors of these cars can be ruined by people who don't know what they're doing like mine have been in the past. I should hope there are dozens of members on here that could show me up. That's why I'm on here, my friend. I want to learn from them.

Also... VWs aren't the only ones with the 'soft touch' plastics. I've seen many'a BMW ruined by other detailers or owners as well.

I have thought about completely stripping the soft touch stuff from my interior because it is starting to peel and fade from the driver side door handle. It degrades over time and often has nothing to do with how it is cleaned. I'm just glad I have the burlwood on most of my interior instead of the plastics.

I ended having to strip the soft touch in both my Golf and Beetle. It was a big improvement, but it was such a difficult process. The door handles are terrible. Even cuff links or buttons on long sleeve shirts can scratch it. The burlwood definitely helps keep the car looking nice & clean. VW dealers will replace all the worn plastic parts as long as the car is under warranty. I assume BMW would do the same?

Ok , let's all be cool and help ol JB with the one thing about VW's that drives him apesh!t - maintenance! I now change my own oil/filter, I saw how easy it was on some guys how to on a VW forum. That saves a bunch plus I know it was done right and with the best oil I could find (M1 0-40w) and yeah I went a little batty reading all those oil threads on Bob is the oil guy dot com.

And get this, I just paid my car insurance - 2008 GTI (doesn't have leather, sunroof, nav) $299 for 6 months and I'm almost 51 years old and no tickets (knocks on wood) - my wife's 2008 Highland Ltd (that costs 15K more than my car) is $225 for the same coverage. ***?

I swear - if I ever come into some money.........

Of the import events I've gone to I'd say 90% of the cars look like crap, lots of them have unpainted body kits, and I see tons of poorly painted cars or panels. While you will still see some of this at classic cars shows, the percentage is noticeably different. Age, knowledge, and income would be the differentiating factors IMO. I've always found classic car owners to be more willing to spend money on a detail than import tuners.

CAI or Detail? hmmm.... :D

I can only smile reading this (though what's with people flaming on the threads these days? or am I just now realizing an old problem?) I can only imagine how P.O'd you'd make these tuners when you bring a couple tools to show them what a true detail job looks like and what there's has been producing.

I've been told that a proper detail adds to the aerodynamics/gas mileage efficiency to a car (though I can't see it being anything more than minimal..) anyone able to substantiate? maybe it'll be a way to market it to to these tuneheads.

It *does* sorta seem like a lot of people are getting testy these days....summer heat or something :nixweiss

Nah...and IIRC MythBusters even tested it.

They also tested the golf-ball theory, which seems plausible. New business venture??

:chuckle:

LOL wth is that!?! hahaha

OH HUGE BTW--a friend wants me to help him detail his car--it's an STI with some carbon fiber parts--suggestions on products and stuff he should be usuing or staying away from?

Funny - I just got my 2nd VW inquiry in over 5 years...

2010 TDI Jetta Wagon. Owner e-mailed yesterday to ask price and availability.

Ill post the result of this inquiry for metrics.

Thus far, I'm batting 000 with VW's.
