Current storm..

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
... Winter storm watch in effect from friday evening through sunday morning...

The national weather service in state college has issued a winter storm watch... Which is in effect from friday evening through sunday morning.

* snow accumulations... 6 inches or more possible.

* timing... Snow begins friday evening. The period of most intense snow will be friday night into saturday evening. Snow ends late saturday night.

* impacts... Dangerous travel conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow accumulations that may impact travel.

Of course i'll be at work.

The biggest threat here is ice and no power. But it will be another weekend with precipitation so no chance to do much detailing wise.

I actually enjoy big snow storms. If it's going to be cold all winter we may as well get a ton of snow. :)

Im with you, Chad - for me, nothing more beautiful than that first big snowfall...

Everything is white, its very, very, quiet, and these big snowflakes are falling down hitting your face..

And for every kid in the world - it's heaven out there.. :)

I had heard earlier in the week that this storm could potentially drop 3+ ft of snow in some areas out east. I guess its been updated

While I do NOT "enjoy" big snow storms, they are a fact of winter life living in the upper Midwest. It's white gold to the recreational tourist industries and businesses here in Northeast Wisconsin (snowmobiling and cross-country skiing equipment sellers/dealers, bars/motels/restaurants/Indian gaming casinos/gas stations), not to mention the snow removal crews, both public municipal road maintenance and private businesses. A lot of lawn care LLC's and self-employed individuals make it through the winter financially by performing this snow-removal service.

Two other business entities that also benefit are towing services and auto body/collision repair shops. Not a good thing, UNLESS your own or work for one of them.
Which segues into their botched workmanship that leads to opportunities for skilled, Autopian-quality vehicle detailers to "correct" or make acceptably better. Some of those individuals will need wait for better (warmer) weather; but for now, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. (OK, so the weather-related song reference is kind of lame!)

I'm just glad it's on the weekend so we can enjoy it. No getting up at 5am to shovel the drive trying to get to work.

I also will be at work when it starts. As I am a janitor at a high school, we are also the maintance crew, A.K.a the snow shovelers. So, I can't wait. My snow blower died last year and it is so old that it is going to the scrap yard. Ok have to get my neighbor's working. Pray for me!

Chad you got that right!!! I miss the winters in New Hampshire--cold with big snow falls but nice sunny crisp weather in between the snow storms. Here in southwest PA it's like a 1/2 to 1" of snow almost every day for the entire winter with nothing but grey skies in between--- try to keep your car clean in that type of weather.

Well my father has been a body man/painter all my life so maybe that's part of why I like it. :)

If I never saw another snow flake in my life I would consider it a blessing. All snow is to me is a big huge waste of time and money, moving it, driving in it, paying employees more overtime trying to work in it or after it when stuffs plowed in. I will waste 8 hours of my life Sunday plowing and shoveling at home and work and I dont get paid a dime extra its just wasted time that I never get back.

6". You lightweights. I'm in Northern Shenandoah Valley, which they say is the epicenter. Forecast here is 18-30, National Guard already bringing equipment in.

Having spent 1 year at the top of the world standing up to the Soviet missile launch threat, can pretty much say there will NEVER be as much snow Anywhere as there is up there...

Oh yeah, above the Arctic Circle, that is the place where all the cold comes from that eventually gets down to the USA, right ?

It was so cold up there that all the Dodge Power Wagon Trucks with fulltime 4wd and huge chains, were plugged in and you NEVER shut them off at night...
All vehicles up there were plugged into motor block warmers and ran all day and night to keep them from freezing...

When the continual below zero temps came ALL the way up to 0, Zero degrees Fahrenheit, we would go outside in shorts and T-shirts, because it was so HOT....:)

You never went out in the snowstorms alone - had to be tied to someone else, in case something happened..

Sleepwise it was a nightmare - 6 months the sun went in a circle around the sky, 12 noon and 12 midnight were not very different
The other 6 months, it was pitch black..

12" plus at the current time. Before I left town Sunday they were calling for up to 8". Already bought gas for the snowblower and made sure it ran. We came home early just incase today. I gotta work Saturday, since I only live 5 minutes from the facility and most everybody lives on the other side of the mountain. I assume I'll have to wake up early to clear the driveway. Unsure what it will be like when I get off at 10pm Saturday.

Sorry RaskyR1 to , incorrectly, imply that ALL body shop personnel do bad workmanship. Obviously your father does not, nor do you.

That said, we Autopians have viewed the postings and pictures of more than one "bad" body shop job that Autopian-quality detailers have fixed. I am in awe at what these detailers do, but perhaps more disappointed in what some body shops consider "acceptable".

Nizmo -

Glad you are prepared and think about this stuff before you have to use it...
Hope you get to work and home safely...
We will be thinking about you and all the others that have to be out in that stuff..
