Cracking clearcoat?

I just finished my first polishing session using Menz IP and Micro polish. I then covered things up with NXT. What I didn't notice earlier was what looks like cracking of either the paint or clearcoat. I didn't notice that before. There's one spot about the size of a fingerprint. I was using the UDM for the first time. Can an orbital polisher do something like that?



I'll get pictures of it tomorrow. In the meantime, I appreciate any feedback or thoughts.

Where is the spot at? Sometimes when a vehicle is egged it will shatter the clear coat. It could have been from something like that or perhaps some other object that hit it. This is what egg damage looks like:

It tends to be small and about the size of a fingerprint.

Does this need a professional painter? There are three of these marks on the hood as well. This one on the door is the worst of the bunch.



Please tell me the UDM or polishing is the not responsible for this damage.



Any help would be appreciated.

Despite being relatively new around here and not claiming to be a pro by any means, that doesn't look like something you did wrong. I vote clear coat failure as previously mentioned for sure.
 
I am new as well. But my 6 year old Honda paint has the same condition in spots. I believe it has been referred to around here as 'crows feet.' It is a form of clearcote failure and it happens over time, not by machine as far as I know.



Out of curiosity, what kind of car is it?

Hmm, I hate to say that from what I have read, many agree that Subaru has some of the poorest quality paint around... I am in the same boat owning a Honda. Our cars are built well...except for the paint.

I would definitely agree about crappy paint in modern Subarus, but I've had Hondas for a very long time and I've never had the paint fail on me. That looks like damage that was accelerated by some other event like an egg or bird crap or something like that. Clear coat doesn't just crack like that unless something hit it. It is especially suspicious since he didn't notice it before and now there it is. I've seen that kind of damage caused by ice and snow before too. Lots of things can cause it.
 
Is there anyway to correct the cracking without taking it to the paint shop?



Luckily this is my car and I don't have to answer to a customer... well, except for the wife.
