Couple Questions About PC Polishing.

EDIT; Need

The RO

3 pack of cyan pads

2 pack of orange pads

205

105

Brinkman light

Daytona Speed brush

Pad cleaner? Can I use APC? Or do I need to buy a pad cleaner made for that specific use?

In the above, the "orange" should be either *GRIOT'S* orange or LC tangerine. "Regular" orange pads are similar to the cyan HydroTechs; Griot's orange pads are different. yeah, it gets confusing!

Hope the Daytona Speed Brush works better for you than similar brushes do for me ;)

I just use Dawn to clean my pads.

Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5.5 x 1.25 Inch Foam Pads, hydrotech foam buffing pads, Lake Country dual action foam pads

I was considering the ones WMD-DFW suggested. I figured if I got 2 3-packs I could get 3 of each.

Will that be enough to do an entire vehicle? How many panels can you get from a pad normally before it needs changed?

BTW, Any other suggestions for a wheel brush? I have heard mixed reviews about them so i was just gonna learn the hard way.

I think I pretty much got it now. I feel much more confident. Thanks again you guys!!:thx

EDIT: You said something about getting even smaller pads. Were the 5.5's what you meant or even smaller than that?

I'm still leery of any pad larger than 4" for correction of hard clear via PC (see additional comment at end of post), but others do OK with 5.5" so those should be good.

This will sound crazy, and it's easy for me to spend your money ;) but I'd rather have twice as many, at least for use with M105.

Also, is the Tangerine pads soft enough for wax application or is there an equivalent to the 6.5 gray pads?

On hard clear the tangerine *might* be OK for wax, but I'd much rather use a softer pad. I kinda like the red Griot's wax pad, and they wear like iron. Sometimes the gray pads just seem insufficiently porous and soooo soft that I'd rather use something else for waxing and that Griot's wax pad really is good.

In the LC Hydrotech line, they have a crimson pad that might be a good choice.

I like Boar's Hair Brushes ("BHB"s), teamed with the little sheepskin mitts made for wheels that Griot's sells (Griot's PN 10209). For the barrels you can try the long swabs (Griots PN 10241, but others have 'em cheaper). For around lugs/etc. I like the cylindrical BHBs that different places sell.

EDIT: You said something about getting even smaller pads. Were the 5.5's what you meant or even smaller than that?

For correction via PC, I use 4" pads pretty much exclusively. Yeah, they're small, so you're covering a smaller area (and you need more of them) but they cut soooo much better that overall I prefer that approach hands-down.

Alright so if I do 4" pads am I gonna have to buy a new backing plate? Do you have a link to some suggested pads? I understand what you're saying and I think that makes sense about using a smaller pad. The 5.5 wouldn't bother me because its fully supported by the backing plate is appears so you don't have any fade of pressure. Maybe that makes sense. It does to me. LoL.

And as far as the bhb, are you talking about the barrel of the wheel? I have a regular bhb for the face, I need something that can clean the barrel.

Yeah, you will. Note that the little pads/plate come in handy for spot-repairs too.

I almost always just use pads from Cyclo Toolmakers But I hear that the LC hydrotechs and Meguiar's pads are now available in 4" too (check We Are Car Care -- Car Wax, Car Polish, Auto Detailing Supplies, Car Buffers & Car Accessories Store ).

The problem is that the larger pad distributes the work over a larger area, so a) the work is less concentrated/milder and b) when you apply more pressure the friction overcomes the pad's rotational ability pretty fast.

OK, those swabs I linked to are one solution, and often that little mitt can be slid around inside there. Some wheels are just a real PIA in this regard whereas others are pretty easy. Unless you keep the barrels well LSPed it'll probably be more towards the PIA end of the spectrum.

OK, ready to order.:spot

Can't think of anything I am forgetting. There's a Harbor Freight with some cheapo halogens on a tripod here in town. I'll grab those and be ready to get started I guess.

The QD is for the claybar I have. I bought the Mothers kit and I dig the smell. I want to save my ONR for washes. For LSP I have Zaino products. After polishing, I'll probably do 2 coats of Z-5 and then I have Z-6 and Z-8 sprays.

Thanks for the code!

Isnt z-5 a car polish? Why would polish it twice after polishing it with m205?

Z-5 PRO delivers:

• Unbelievable levels of shine, gloss, depth, clarity, and reflectivity

• Enhanced swirl-hiding capabilities

• Unbeatable durability - lock in that show car shine for months

• Improved ease of use - wipe on, wipe off

• No dust, no staining, no streaking

• Greater value

I thought it was a LSP?

What about this part?? I called the Zaino guy and he said that was what I needed.

Do I need to do the Z-2?

After readings its full description z-2 and z-5 seem like a sealant but no clue why they would call it a polish, but Im not really a zaino fan so Im gonna say they are sealant. Either way you dont need to put 4 layers of sealant on
