Cotton / Terry Towels...Ready To Use ?

I bought a bundle of 100% Cotton / Terry towels from Costco (but it could be from anywhere) that says on the package...'Laundry Fresh / Ready To Use'...My question is...ARE they ? In 'General'...when it says that on the package, should they be okay, or should I throw them in the wash myself also to give them the 'Once Over' just to be on the safe side ?

Have any of you had bad experiences with these (supposedly) 'Pre-Washed' towels ?

I would wash any cloth you buy before using it just to be safe.Washing will remove alot of the lint and anything left in the fabric from their so called wash.Just remember not to use any fabric softener and I always run the rinse cycle twice.See ya

I assume the towels will at least be 'Clean' right out of the package, so thats not what I'm worried about. I'm going to go ahead and run them through the wash, BUT...Do you think I even need to add Soap, or just run them through in plain water, in effect, giving them 2 cycles to go through, as the first cycle is uppose to be 'Wash' cycle, but if you dont add soap, it would just be rinsing. The ones made abroad might be a polyester blend. Do a little test.....Light some small strands at the end of it on fire. If it burns with black smoke and turns black quick, it has polyester in it. Do this over a sink or outside and PLEASE be careful.

I have seen these Costo towels. I would absolutely not use them on the paint. Wheels, if they are chrome or aluminum (without clear coat), OK. Engines, fine. Paint, no.

For paint, only MF or Fieldcrest Charisma (Royal Velvet is OK). Personally, I am now going with the Charisma Selects. They cost $$$ -- $14.95 for bath sized Irregs at the outlet site (vs. 9.95 for the regular Charismas). BUT, I figure towels last a pretty long time. They can be cut in four for most purposes, so, its about $3.25 a towel. I feel that paying the extra dollar a towel is OK, as a towel will last a long time.

I bought those costco towels also before I found this forum. I only use them for my wheels, tires, wheel wells and anything else really dirty. It says 100% cotton, but they almost feel like sandpaper when slightly damp.

Also, I laundered the entire package twice with detergent and I was still getting a pretty good amount of lint.

Use the Costco towels for grunt work. Use them in the engine, door jams, buffing out leather cleaners and conditioners, etc... Don't use them on your paint.

Oh Well...Just remembered I have some Blue, Fluffy Car Towels I got from Target last year, and they seem 'Plush' enough to get the job done safely. I think I got a pack of 6 for approx $4.99.

How many regular size towels do you guys go through to wax (one step cleaner / wax) mid-size vehicle. I also have 3-4 small (Nicsand) MF's, but I dont know if that is enough. (?)

Thanks for all the help.

Don, would you use the towels for wiping brake dust off your wheels also (I'm assuming you have clear-coat wheels)?
