Corrosion problems on cleaned engine

A couple years after removing all of the grime & cosmoline from my engine compartment I've noticed that some of the metal parts like bolt heads & metal brackets are starting to show some corrosion now that they no long have their protective coating of gunk. I also probably didn't do a good enough job removing all of the residue from the citrus degreaser I used for the job, which may be contributing.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had suggestion on how to prevent this unintended consequence of engine detailing. I was thinking that maybe Engine Kote or something similar might provide a protective barrier.

Just a hint but after you use an acid to clean then use a neturalizer ( baking soda and water) to rinse and then use the protectant.

good luck

When they REALLY bug me, I touch up the corroded areas by first cleaning/scuffing with something mildly abrasive and then treating with a dab of rust convertor. Sometimes I'll top that with a little touch-up paint, sometimes I just leave the convertor untopped (it turns black).

On " year-round, real word drivers", it's tough to avoid SOME minor corrosion. Paint gets chipped off of things (especially during maintenance) and water (and salt, etc.) does its thing. One of the downsides to removing all that yucky cosmoline is that you expose stuff...
