Correlation between when it rains and when you wash your car?

Anybody notice this? It seems that it rains the day after I wash my car, every time, without fail. Seriously. Even my family notices it. And what about birds? I'm pretty sure they have a clean-car radar that they use to target their poop. My car never gets hit when its dirty. Am I alone in this?

I check the weather a zillion times before I wash my car. If there is even a slight chance of rain for two or three days after the day I intend on washing, I just wait and leave it dirty. I have three local news station websites that I check the forecast on daily, plus weather.com.

I don't do all that much driving anyways (school/most places I frequent are very close to home), so it is pointless spending two or three hours washing it and only spending twenty or thirty minutes actually driving it until it rains again.

If I really feel the need to clean it even though the weather is gonna suck, I will usually clean the interior instead.

I go to weather.com to see if I should wash.

I'm convinced I alter the weather though. The forecast can be sunny with clear skies and I swear it changes as soon as I wash it...

No one experiences being a bird poop target either?? Maybe I just have bad luck :sadpace:

I'm with hockeyplaya13.

It's a curse that extends to other forms of weather.

Last Nov. I bought a huge honkin' snow blower. We didn't have any snow this past winter and my pals, amid gales of laughter, are thanking me for the snow blower purchase. They're asking me to buy a second one, only bigger this time, this coming November.

I'm thinking about it.

If my cars are dirty I wash them regardless if its going to rain or not.

I don't want the acidy rain water combining with some dirty car coating nasty industrial fallout to make some clear coat etching mix.

Agreed. And I'm not sure if it's hatchback thing, but rear window is just looking atrocious after even a small rain.

And as for bird poop, I kid you not, once I washed and left for the office, came back to a white round surprise the size of a cow's pancake (not in thickness, thank god, just the radius).

Ok, here's proof. Today it was clear with sunny skies, nice and warm, perfect weather. I wash my car. Two hours later, still sunny and clear, it starts POURING, while I am driving. At first it's just that little drizzle, and I'm thinking to myself "You've got to be kidding me." And of course this thread pops into my head and I kind of laugh at the irony. Here's a picture of it, nice and sunny, but raining now because I washed my car. :hairpull

Well the way i see it; weather.com is giving you a weather read pre-wash. I bet if you went and checked it after washing it would have thunderstorms rolling in...

I feel your pain and you are definitely not alone. Except that i live on a gravel driveway so i get a good coat of dust before raining.

I dont mind washing before a rain storm. Better visibility and my finish beads up.

Then when its all over, I have a much better point to start with than before.

I think I love my F-Body more than my girlfriend.

I feel the pain, seems to happen all the time..and damn I guess theres a big invisible bombing target on my roof...I swear the other day as soon as I finished the windows I turn around to get the finishing touch (Stripper air freshener) by the time I turn around there a fresh bomb on the front windshield! :furious:

I typically don't wash unless I know it's not going to rain/snow for at least two days. However, during the winter months I can't always maintain this strategy. It could mean the cars don't get washed for weeks on end during a time when they desperately need to be cleaned.

The rain is caused from you washing your car too long with too much water, this causes the humidity level to rise thus causing it to rain a short while afterwards.

The bird poop is caused from your paint being too shiny, the birds fly over head and see their own reflections and it scares the crap out of them.

The only way to stop these occuarances is to stop spending so much time and doing such a great job on your details!!

:)

Doesn't bother me at all if it rains, it just gives me an excuse to do something I enjoy doing (washing the car). However I will say that I do my best not to drive the car when its raining or going to rain. 99.9% of the time the car is spotless.

I hear ya.

Weather reports says 3 days until rain. Wash the car and then the report is saying tomorrow its raining.

Its as if washing a car is like a raindance :)

I wash still wash it knowing its going to rain, I just wont dress the tires or anything. For some reason my new truck has been a target for bird poop. my last one NEVER had poop on it. I park in the same spot that I did with the old one too. lol
