Correct Wax Choice?

I purchased some Prime: Strong to use as a cleaner before waxing, but is this considered an abrasive polish? It appears to be more of an AIW product meant for cleaning than a true polish.

Prime Strong is an AIO product, not a polish, but with very mild abrasives. Use sparingly...one bottle goes a long way. My KAIO has been on the shelf for over a year, replaced with Prime and its variants.

Thanks. Easier to use in what way? What do you see that you feel "looks better"? Is it wetter, warmer, deeper or ????.

Yes to all. Plus, no silvery sheen on black paint when viewed at an angle like I got with SG.

Thanks Accumulator for all that info, that really helps. I purchased some Prime: Strong to use as a cleaner before waxing, but is this considered an abrasive polish? It appears to be more of an AIW product meant for cleaning than a true polish.

I think what I'll do, since I think the paint looks very good to me, is try the Sonus clay bar and then apply the 1000P sealant that I purchased. Only under the lights at night can I see tiny little swirls, but they are very sparse and not what I would consider a problem at all, nothing like what I've seen of swirl marks from pictures others have posted on this site.

Ty, which Sonus clay bar were you planning on using? I ask because our Subaru paint tends to be on the soft side and the Sonus Gray added some marring (actually quite a bit) to my car when I used it. Not a big deal because I was polishing afterward anyway. Had the same problem with the Mothers Yellow clay.

The Sonus green didn't mar my car, but its really tame stuff, definitely not strong enough for my initial cleanup of the vehicle.

I had a WRB 2006 WRX. Dealer prep sucked. I clayed my car the first week I had it. I used AIO and UPP topped with Nattys Blue. Be careful. Suby paint is soft and chips easily. Might be a good idea to get a clear bra.

Yeah, gotta watch it with the Sonus gray (current version). I never got marring from the Mother's/Griot's yellow clay, but who knows if it's the same now as when I last used it.

sleestak- That was a good looking combo on that color, and that color was good for the WRX wagon (a lot better looking than my silver one, that's for sure).

Thanks. I really miss the car. Lots more fun than my current F-150. Nothing like seeing the look on people faces when they saw a little wagon running in the 12's at the track. :chuckle:

I'm an old guy - ok, I grew up thinking that Chevy could not make a bad car. My first car was a 1972 Z-28, last year of the LT-1 350, and it had the 4 speed and 4:10 posi traction. Damn thing was a be-otch to handle, but sure looked cool, and I was right there every week with my DuPont Rain Dance waxing away. Come to think of it, the good old days sucked! Only things I miss are being young, my high school sweetheart and knowing everything. You young fellows have a much better choice of cars and detailing products these days. My suggestion would be to use DG 105 and AW after every other wash. I'm using that combo on my Rav4 and it gets compliments from folks that later become customers of mine. Last thought, if I still had that old Z, I could sell it and pay off my house!

2.5RS, when I decide to clay the car I will use the green version.

Sleekstak, I def. plan on getting a clear bra, but I'm having trouble finding someone who installs them in my area. I emailed Rockblocker, but haven't heard a response yet from them.

Semi OT, I used some clay this past weekend for the first time ever. I have a white 92 Maxima that had very rough paint (like sandpaper) and the water was no longer beading whatsoever. I feel bad that I let it get to that point, but I just never found the time for it. Anyway, since the car was older and I didn't have real high hopes, I went to the store and picked up the Mothers clay bar kit, with the little bottle of cleaner wax included. I taped off the car and used the clay, what an amazing difference. The paint is smooth as silk now. I used the little bottle of cleaner wax on it, and the shine really is astounding. I also picked up a regular old bottle of Meg's Gold Class, and I figured I'd put a few coats of that on for some extra protection. It's an old car, and I figured I'd go with some OTC stuff to see what it could do. I'll have to take a few pics when I'm done, as the shine really is great for it being a 15 year old car.

ty wqebb- Yeah, the clay-then-cleaner wax works better than a lot of people might think- you've seen first hand that even stuff that gets a bum rap around here can give good results ;)

When I read the bottle of cleaner wax, it sounded like what people around here call "all-in-one" products, so I figured I'd use that and then put a few layers of some higher quality OTC wax on. So far, so good, and I plan on putting several coats of the the Gold Class wax on to beef up the protection.

Last night when I viewed the car from an angle, looking along the doors and fenders, even with just one coat of the cleaner wax, that white paint looked like a mirror. It might be a testament to Nissan's paint though, the stuff is durable as heck. This car hasn't seen wax in probably close to 2 years, and now you can run your hand over it and it feels like my new WRX.
