Convince me about white

Guys,

It appears that I'll be buying a white 2005 Tacoma regular cab pickup to replace my wife's silver 2002 Tacoma pickup. It's a 4X4 with black bumpers and black overfenders. She's OK with the white. It's me that seems to have the problem with it. But then I don't drive it much.

I do plan to add some oversize tires. That will help some, but I keep thinking "company truck". I certainly am not into applying graphics.

Those are older pics, but I don't think they scream company truck or anything. :) I saw this post over at TS by the way.

Those are a little newer. White is a good color, although it has been a challenge for me to find the look that I want. It is a little easier maintenance than, say, black IMO. It hides dirt a little, and marring doesn't show up as easily.

It's not like every other Tacoma you see is going to be white either - that's a color that shall remain nameless.

If the wife likes it, I'd say go for it. :bigups

P.S. I know for a fact that Jngrbrdman used to have a white Acura that was one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. Maybe he can post a pic or two or you can PM him. If he has any pics, they are most definitely worth looking at.

The trick with white is to make the details perfect. You need the trim to be as dark as possible, the windows as clear as they can be, and a smooth finish that flows across the body line. When you've done it you'll know, it's beautiful.

Nice looking truck and white is easy to keep clean. The two things that I do not like about white is. While washing you have to get all the dirt of the cracks or that is the first place your eyes foucs on. Next is that you do not get that POP from the paint as you do with darker colors.

The fact that lighter color cars are easier to keep looking clean, I would jump at that.

While I understand that's your opinion, I will have to say that I don't completely believe that. Seeing the pics of Jngr's Acura is proof that white can "pop" as well as any other color period. :)

My white Escalade "POP's" quite nicely thank you. It glows at night and on bright shiny days it actually hates your eyes.

"POP" is detailer dependent more so than color of vehicle.IMHO

Is that not a pearlized type of white? I've not seen all the whites that the Excalades have but the white ones I have are a pearlized type of paint.

Don't get me wrong I love some white cars, but I have yet to feel like you get the impact or POP that you get from the darker richer colored cars.

Well, if the pics of Jarred's Tacoma don't convince you... nothing will! :D

Guys,

I bought the truck. $500 over invoice not including taxes or license fees. A very good deal. It had only been on the lot a week and had not been test driven. Not too many folks are into regular cab 4X4's, but my wife loves them. They remind her of her Jeep CJ-7 and Jeep Wrangler, but much more partical for hauling her bike, etc. Our only child is grown so we don't have kids to haul.

With the black overfenders and black bumpers, it will look plenty rugged once I do something about the tires and install some nerf bars. But then I don't drive it, right? ;)

Now to see if I can make white "pop" :D

Pictures! :D

Sorry no digital camera. I spend all of my money on other toys. And besides that, I'm so busy playing with them, I don't have time to take pictures of them. :D

aw, i guess i got here kinda late. i hate to admit it, but i think white is my favorite color. all my friends whom are girls criticize me that white is such a mom/grandma color, however, i dont think theyve even seen a detail fanatic's definition of white. looking back at it, i wish i had gotten my car in white instead of silver. i like white becasue it doesnt really show imperfections, but at the same time it can look smooth, slick, and deep at the same time. trust me, when you see that white really pop, you'll know its worth it. ive had that happen to me on a couple of ocassions and i just think to myself, damn, should have gotten white. have fun with your white truck!

Nothing looks "cleaner" than a BRIGHT white; especially when it's big like your Tacoma. I have the Sequoia which is from the same frame and front end. When it's clean and bright, it turns heads!

Echo the comments regarding the details - get the little things (tires, trim, windows, crevices, etc.) perfect and they offset the white fantastic. Personal preference is AIO/SG or UPP. You'll love the white!

My Escalade is the Olympic white (non-metallic). If prepped meticulously and clearcoat is as swirl-free as possible, white can "POP". As much "POP" as my black or red vehicles, No. But stunning none the less IMO.
