Convenient Method to Add Air to Tires?

*I have a set of valve caps with the MB Star on them-from what I understand, they work much better than the ones with the Audi Ring. :D

Walmart has a bicycle type pump for auto tires It is in the auto section. It is like $8.00 It is red. For 3-5 psi you will need 10-15 pumps to bring up the air pressure. It is easy to use and give you some exercise.I have the electric type and a air compressor and I like it best over them.

I used to use a bicycle pump to pump up big P235R15 tires on a 5,000 lb. station wagon. This was back in the 70's, when I had the muscles. It takes work! But it is possible. You'll need a tire pressure gauge and a lot of elbow grease.

You should be able to find them at most auto parts stores. I bought mine at O'Reilleys because I liked the ones they had. You can also find them online.



Here's a link for the same one's I have. There are a few different brands. I like the chrome ones, but some of them stick out too far for my tastes. The ones that show yellow, before they show red stick out a little farther. They should cost you about $10 for a set of 4, but I've seen them for sale at dealerships for twice that.

I had my first set stolen. After that, I used a mechanics glove to tighten them down. The little bit of extra leverage makes them more difficult to take off with bare hands. It stops someone (a.k.a. the thief) from walking by and giving them a quick twist to get them off. I can see marks in the brake dust on mine (can't beleive I just admitted that on Autopia!) where people have tried to swipe them again, but I still have all four.
 
The last set was actually tightened using pliers and lasted for quite awhile but I guess someone had a toolbox handy. I now use the standard black plastic caps.



I know what you mean about brake dust... even the shortest trip in the Boxster yields lots of dust. But that is the price one pays for big stopping power when you need it :D
 
Brakes are for amateurs.



I've got a 3 ton truck and excellent hydro boosted brakes, but I get very little brake dust.

My wife was driving the Carrera one week solid and, like the Boxster, if puts out some dust when you heat up the Big Reds. I was washing the car and yelled at her, "Honey...will you pleeeeease stop using the brakes!" ;) She almost dropped the groceries she was carrying and instantly gave me the "death look" that wives can muster up! :D

Well, I couldn't find any locally, and went to go order some from that site, I don't mind paying the shipping, but I can't find the link to actually buy them... :confused:
