Confused about Clearkote products

Tyler, if you want to go the Clearkote route, *I* would Vanilla Moose / Carnauba Moose Wax / Quik Shine.

I'm not sure what route I want to go... I've just got that Add to Cart urge lately :grinno: I figure I should at least get the VM as I have never heard anything bad about it.

And I just saw they added some new products I have not heard of yet. Compound Moose, (grit-less abrasive), and Blue Moose Cutting Cream (what's with the blue phase anyways?)

I think my main problem is with the product descriptions on the Clearkote website. They're all kind of vague and very similar.

Yellow Cream Wax - makes paint and plastic surfaces smoother. Okay?

RMG - imporoves reflective gloss of painted and plastic surfaces. And then?

Compound Moose - Removes minor paint defects, wet sanding marks, etc. A little better.

Moose Wax - an excellent cleaner/wax to remove oxidation

VM - to remove those "spider web" scratches, also an excellent oxidation remover. At least here it specifically states, "use before Moose Wax."

 I give up.

Can we clear up something on here. I see people say CMW a lot, but does it mean "Clearkote Moose Wax" or "Carnauba Moose Wax"?.

This is the Moose Wax, which has cleaners in it, and it seems like this would not be a choice topper for autopians. Would you guys abbreviate this to be "MW" then?

And this of course is "Carnauba Moose Wax", which seems more like what you guys refer to when you say CMW.

Does QuikShine contain Caranuba? Is it a decent gloss enhancer? (I currently use S+G but am looking to try other QDs..)

No carnauba and saying it is a 'decent' gloss enhancer is a serious understatement. Even over Souveran, QS gives a noticable visual improvement, plus it is super slick.

Well I decided to shoot an e-mail Clearkote's way last night. I got a prompt reply this morning and here is what they had to say:

Tyler:

Thank you for the interest in ClearKote Products. First let me ask are you going to use a machine to apply or apply by hand? This will help determine what products to select.

Ultimate WET LOOK

Machine:

Wash the car. Dry it off. Use the "Red Moose Machine Glaze" This is used to remove those "spider web scratches and holograms from the surface. Use the Yellow Moose Cream Wax. (This improves the reflective gloss). Then put a layer of our Carnauba Moose wax. (This seals the surface and gives the wet look). Maintain with Quik Shine. (A Q.D.).

By hand:

Same as above, except, use the Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze. The end result will not be quite as wet looking as the machine steps. It is still very impressive to see.

You don't need the Blue Moose or the Compound Moose for your issues. They are to aggressive

I hope this helps.

I guess this makes sense. Machine glaze vs. hand glaze.

Well that does makes sense, nice to know where the YCW fits in.

By PC VM with a polishing pad seems to clean up paint better then the RMG tho IMO (saying that I have only used that with a finishing pad).

By hand VM sure is easier then RMG though.

I'm wondering how much YCW really helps?!?! Also, what would be your preference....EX or CMW? I am topping with Natty's.

Thanks!

Brett

VM / RMG / EX (metallic = ex, non = ex w/carnauba) / Nattys, maintain with OCW.

If I was going to use CMW I would replace the natty's with it, not the ex. Either that, or I would put it over the ex and under the natty's. But I really think that's bordering on overkill.

Just imo.

Edit - Richt has won this round! :D
