concern re: C-2000 Overspray Clay and brittle DACP bottle

I have two different concerns, one regarding the C-2000 Body Shop Professional Overspray Clay, and the other regarding a 1 gallon bottle of DACP.

I purchased the C-2000 Clay from a local Carquest (using the Meguiar's Online Product Locator) earlier today to use on a white 1994 Chrysler Town and Country that we just bought from my dad's friend. It worked well for the most part, but after I finished about 1/4 of the car, the claybar started falling apart on me, as show in the picture below:

After each section, I'd pack in the clay to reshape it, only to find that on each succeding section, I'd have to do it all over again. Is the C-2000 the "reformulated" clay that was at the Meguiar's/Autopia meet? If I'm not mistaken, I recall seeing three different types of clay at the meet - the one along with the Quik Clay system and two different clays in black jars, one labeled "Mild", and one labeled "Agressive". The claybars at the meet were blue and red, respectively, while mine is grey. Is the clay I purchased an older version? I tried using both Quik Detail and a GC wash/water mix, and both gave the same results.

Now on to my DACP concern - The other day, I set my gallon jug of DACP down a little too rough - I didn't throw it, but I wasn't exactly gentle with it either. I heard a slight *crack* but didn't think anything about it at the time. When it came time to use the DACP, I picked it up and gave it a good shake, and some DACP went landing on the floor :( I've seen a new gallon jug of SFP which looks to be made of a different type of plastic, similar to the ones that milk, antifreeze, and filtered water come in. Did the packaging for DACP change too? I bought my bottle about 6 months ago at a local PBE shop (Annex Automotive Colors in Industry, CA) and it looked like it had been sitting there for a while. Here's a few pictures of my bottle:

When was the bottle design changed? I was just wondering if the newer bottles held up better to "abuse" since mine was almost always kept in the garage while in storage and while I detailed, and it seemed to crack pretty easy. I know, I need to get some squeeze bottles to put my products in ;)

Are you sure of the part number? It is probably the old Overspray clay. The current C2000 is not called "Overspray Clay" anymore. C2000 is now the "mild" strength Detailing Clay. It is now blue in color.

As to it disintigrating, were you using car was soap with it? That can lead to that kind of disintigration.

I believe Mike posted something about fragile bottles the other day on Meguiars Online.

Maybe it is just me but, that looks like a very old gallon bottle of DACP. I just looked in the current and last years Professional Catalog and the bottles look as you describe like anti-freeze shaped bottles.

I guess it's the older version then... I didn't think much about the color since the part number was the same. I guess I'll see if Carquest has some sort of satisfaction guarantee with the products they sell.

Thanks for the link about the cracked bottle on meguiarsonline... I should start visiting that site more often ;)

Yea, that's what I was thinking... when I went into the shop, it was the last bottle sitting on the shelf, and it had a nice layer of dust on it too :o

That is the same problem I have. I have a NAPA that does carry the entire line but, I think they have had the same bottles on the shelf for the past 2 years I have been here :) Not good for you but, since Meguiars recently moved their Warehouse and Shipping from their headquarters to the same location as their Manufactuering in Tennessee I just order directly from them and avoid those kinds of problems.

Yea, I wish they had a showroom at their HQ where I could buy their products... I live about 30 minutes away from there :)

I do believe they are or were toying with that idea. When I was there during the Autopia Detailing Day a few months ago I believe Mike mentioned something about that. Drop Mike a PM or post over on Meguiars Online. It can only help if people express enough interest.

I have a local body shop supply that carries the meguiars line, but the bottles are ancient. They are dusty and have the old, old labels. :( I bought a few things there, but the age of them deters me. Too bad they are the only local source for the Pro-Line that I have found.

Looks like this thread has kind of sorted itself out. Thanks Aurora40 ;)

As to the clay bar, call Cusomter Care tomorrow and tell them I told you to call. That Clay Bar needs to be replaced.

The gallon of DACP is in the old style plastic container, and yes it is brittle. The new plastic is much more forgiving. Check with the store you bought it at and see if they'll exchange you for a new on.

Aurora40 is the other Bob Mike ;)

I seem to recall something you mentioned during the tour of HQ that Meguiars was thinking about a store on the premesis. Any update on that?

Now I remember why I use my real name :D :D :D

Sorry rjstaaf, you know I know the difference, must be the end of the day.

I don't think at this time we will be opening a store at Meguiar's, at least I haven't heard of anything new on this topic.

Mike

Just pickn' on ya Mike :D Actually rjstaaf is my real name, my initials and my last name. I would really like to change it to something more anonymous but, I use the same id on about 12 forums and to change them all would be a major pita.

Any word on the Meguiars secondary bottles? I need to call customer service but, thought I would run it by you. I placed an order recently and never received my Last Touch bottles with high volume sprayers (2). I called back and they said they would send them but, it has been weeks and nothing. I think I recall you mentioned something about a fire that affected the shipping of the bottles? Can you elaborate? Sorry to wander off topic, just seemed easier than sending a PM or starting a new thread.

Thanks

I just spoke with Jeff in Customer Care (who happened to be the same Jeff at the Autopia/Meguiar's meet a few months ago) and he took care of the clay issue for me... I placed an order for the Agressive clay as well... he asked if I wanted to order a gallon of the Last Touch Detailing Spray but I had to refrain since I still have a gallon of FD sitting on the shelf ;) Thanks Mike!

Just out of curiosity, how long ago did the bottle design change for the gallon products? I'm just wondering how old my DACP really is ;)

Your not the only one to have broken a tan bottle. I broke a gallon jug of car wash concentrate once.

Good times!

I purchased Meguiar's "mild" clay a month or two ago...it came in a package unlike the one you are showing.

Maybe the stuff you got was old. :(
