Compounding, Polishing, Glazing and LSP with a Wool pad

In most cases "professional" standards are equal to wool for starting and wool for finishing(same pad but with a glaze).

True you can or get close to swirl free sometimes, but i never look or expect to finish with wool. As stated foam will bring up a nicer finish and less worries about holograms.

A lot of autobody shops, around here, still use wool and glazes.

Have you been to a car show lately? I don't want to be lumped there either.

I was at one on the weekend and only three cars would have passed Autopian standards.

I just left a guys house and he had 4 Vettes under car covers. He bragged about how nice they all were and that he shows 2 of them. He lifted the cover off of the 69 that he claimed is worth $350,000 (1 of 20 that were triple black big blocks with aluminum heads with 8000 miles since resto) and the paint looked like total crap. I asked him who detailed them for him and he insisted "he doesn't let ANYONE touch his cars! I just kept my mouth shut.

I'd rather explain to someone what it means to have "Autopian" quality than to be lumped in with the many hacks that call themselves professionals.

You would be suprised at the reactions, some get very upset but most start asking when im available and how much it would cost to fix :lol

I do this alot at car shows. I target the older people with muscle cars and antiques, thats also why alot of my work does not get posted on the internet

Well, I missed the local car shows last Fall, but this year - da Bug is going, I hope to talk Brandon1 and maybe some of the other local detailers into going too. Call us the inspectors if you will, but it should be fun and like Coupe said - you might pick up some biz. I can see the guy that can recite cam specs for every Chevy engine since the 50's but not knowing didly about detailing other than slap on a coat of wax and buff with a bath towel. Personally, if had the money, I'd rather buy a show car from a gear head that has the mechanicals down right - I can fix the paint.

Have you ever seen proffesional body shop standards? Proffessional dealership standards? Proffesional high volume detail shop standards?

They dont even compare to autopian standards.

i know of at least one exception. i manage the detail shop at a dealership and i make sure everything is at or near autopian standards. it took me quite a while though to convince some of my co-workers that i wasnt crazy because they had never seen someone put in such effort and go to the extremes that i did to reach that standard. Hell i even buy my own products, i have so much old bulk crap of theirs sitting around its ridiculous. Sorry for getting off topic but i like to think im the exception to the rule.
