Compound or polish for 1 stage correction?

I see many services for detailing, one option is to have a 1 of 2 stage polish, or paint correction.

When offering this, the expectation is that you will not get the best finish and correction with a 1 stage compared to 2 stage. So, my question is, if you offer this, do you got for a heavier cut and potentially leave a corrected but hazed surface, or do you use a lighter cut and potentially leave some swirls or light defects behind?

Thanks!

Depends on the paint hardness. If you are just doing one polishing step, you need to be sure the customer understands that the paint will look better, but you cannot promise swirl free paint without doing multiple steps. If the paint is pretty hard, I can often get some decent correction and no haze with Meguiars D300 and an MF cutting pad, on softer paints, Optimum Hyper Polish and an MF polishing pad will amp up the gloss and depth noticeably and remove light defects.

Hi mate

When I ever do one step services, I am using a water based single polish system which means one product for the entire process and just the choice of pads is what determines whether I remove all the damage or just shine up the paint

The days of using heavy cut compounds and two other polish products to finish a car is pretty much outdated

if the paint is hard or in bad condition, I'll use Xpert 1000 with an optimum microfibre pad or surbuf pad on my random orbital or the rotary in DA mode using the dynabrade power head

this will give an excellent correction with great shine too.

if hard in good nick, just microfibre or foam

the 1000 corrects extremely well but gives a result like a finishing polish

if its medium to soft paint and a dark colour, I'll use Xpert 1500 for the one step polish with microfibre

if I do two step, I will use either a rayon pad or surbuf pad and then go to microfibre to finish

paint correction IMHO is at least three and up to seven steps.
