how does megs #26 compare to megs gold class? what are benefits of each, or more importantly, which is better?

Two different products for two different uses.
A brief summary:
#26 is a wax with no cleaning ability. It is meant to be used on a finish that has been cleaned and polished.
The Gold Class is a cleaner/wax that will do some cleaning and leave some protection. :)
 
so in that case, id want to clean it and then apply #26 for a high shine..leads to my next question, what kind of product is good to clean before applying #26?
 
If you want the best shine possible you have to polish first. You can't go wrong with Poorboys Pro polish because it has no silicones or fillers so it's going to be compatible with anything you want to put on top.
 
I would add that the #26 is a bit more durable than the GC....... at least it looks better longer. However, IMHO the GC has a bit better shine, and clearer appearance. The #26 always strikes me as being a little "cloudy"........ still a very nice carnauba though.

As already pointed out, Meguiar's #26 is a pure wax in that it contains no cleaners and is meant for an already cleaned/polished surface.

Meguiar's Gold Class will provide a deeper and darker shine IMHO than #26. It also contains a polymer which means that it needs to be applied differently than the #26. Moreover, as someone already said, it does have very MILD cleaners that are more for assisting the bonding process rather than cleaing the paint like a typical and dedicated cleaner wax.

In terms of durability, that is a tough call. A beading surface is not an indicator that the wax has been eroded away. I find that with GC that after a wash or two, the beading decreases dramatically. But as I said that does not mean the wax is now gone. I would still give the edge to the #26 for durability overall.

I personally prefer #26 over the Gold Class. But for darker paints, GC is very hard to beat!

Why not start with clay then use Gold Class, in a couple of days or after a week top with #26. If you have swirls you may need a s.m.r., if not just use Gold Class and #26.

If your using GC, dont bother with the FI. Fi is going to give you a rather different look than the design of GC. Go with a QD that has some carnauba in it.
 
Jsut about any QD will ahve SOME carnauba in it. Meguiars QD is readily available just about anywhere, as well as Showtime.
 
Just trying to save you a little money. FI is not going to net you a much better increase in light reflection and clarity on that GC.

Also, when you QD the car, try to do it with a MF cloth. The thinner the better.
 
yeah thanks, i was planning on buying the FI but since i have the QD and if it works the same why not..definetly going to use the MF towels...bought some recently and fell in love..since reading on this site for the past 2 weeks or so i've learned an incrediable amount..THANKS
 
There is no need to top the Gold Class unless it is with #26 or another pure carnauba. The ONLY QD "type" from Meguiar's that contains carnauba is their Quik Wax.

If you want something to maintain that freshly waxed look, then I would use Meguiar's Final Detail from their Detailer Series. It leaves a beautiful gloss with an incredibly slick feeling. But, it is not a replacement for a wax. It is for maintenance only.

Meguiar's #34 Final Inspection is an excellent product that is Body Shop Safe. In other words, it contains NO silicone or WAX of any type. It is used for quick touch ups at car shows to remove fingerprints etc... . It is not a replacement for a full wax job either.

Otherwise, there is no need to top GC as it is one of the most deep and wet looking waxes around!
 
Final Detail

Meguiar's #51 Final Detail is a quick detailer product. It does not provide protection. It definitely makes a well cared for finish look great, though. :)

If you have a QD that is working for you right now, you might as well wait until you need more.
Qd's are like polishes, waxes and sealants. Lots of good ones out there. Having used EO Wet, Platinum UGE, Meguiar's Quik Detailer, Meguiar's Final Inspection, Meguiar's Final Detail, I can't say that any one of them was a bad product. By the same token, none of them will make a bad finish look great, either.:)
