Common houshold products w/uncommon uses

Since taking an interest in keeping my car looking its best, and reading this forum, I have obtained quite an arsenal of detailing products. In addition to the detailing products, I now use some non-detailing products while detailing:



A toothbrush to get wax residue and dirt from those hard to reach places.



Q-tips for applying protectant to vents and such.



Foam paint brushes, for spreading protectant on the trim.



Toothpicks for gettting into those places the toothbrush missed.



What are some of the more unusual items you use in the pursuit of perfection?
 
I wouldn't say those are uncommon uses.



Peanut butter for covering up wax on trim.



Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner for cleaning tires.



Bounce Dryer sheets for absorbing smells in your car.

How do you use the peanut butter method? Put it on a towel and rub it in? Also, about the dryer sheets; just put them in the car?

I'm not Intel486, but I think I can answer your questions. The peanut butter method is best used before you wash your car. Apply peanut butter to the affected trim, rubbing it in thoroughly. The peanut oil will dissolve the wax. Clean off the remaining PB. I usually dip out a glob onto a paper towel and apply it with my finger.



I've never done the dryer sheet thing before, but have heard from others that you just throw them under the seats and leave them until they poop out.

Put a blob in a bowl, heat it a few seconds, and then smear it on the trim. Then just wash your car as normal and wash it off. I've used it before and the wax stain usually just comes back so I have figured the peanut oil is just covering the wax up. I have heard other people say that same thing.



I will usually just put the dryer sheet under the seat.
 
The peanut butter trick works great on older mercedes door handles. Does not last very long but it is cheap and easy. Just don't use chunky!:D
