i don't think #80 really hides the scratches. i think it's one of Meguiar's polishes with more abrassives then fillers. the Poorboy's SSR line of polishes don't use fillers to hide anything. there are a some other polishes that don't have fillers, but i forgot which ones. 
as far as the SSR 2.5 goes, you can start off with an aggressive pad, like a cutting pad. you might get some light hazing, and if you do, you can step down to a less aggressive pad, like a polishing pad. doing it that way - SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad followed by SSR 2.5 with a polishing pad - should leave your paint ready for the LSP. just be sure you get rid of all swirls and hazing. a good thing about doing it this way is that you don't have to get SSR 1.
