Coming up with an ideal combo for my Black car

i don't think #80 really hides the scratches. i think it's one of Meguiar's polishes with more abrassives then fillers. the Poorboy's SSR line of polishes don't use fillers to hide anything. there are a some other polishes that don't have fillers, but i forgot which ones. :o

as far as the SSR 2.5 goes, you can start off with an aggressive pad, like a cutting pad. you might get some light hazing, and if you do, you can step down to a less aggressive pad, like a polishing pad. doing it that way - SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad followed by SSR 2.5 with a polishing pad - should leave your paint ready for the LSP. just be sure you get rid of all swirls and hazing. a good thing about doing it this way is that you don't have to get SSR 1.

If you don't use SSR1 do you need to use AIO or something to that extent. Sorry I am new to all of this and I am trying to understand.

no need to apologize. we've all been there before with more questions than answers. :)

as long as your polishing makes your paint as defect free as you want it to be, you wouldn't have to use AIO. so, you could just do SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad followed by SSR 2.5 with a polishing pad, and if your are happy with the way the paint is, go straight to your sealant or wax of choice without using AIO. but some people will finish polishing their paint out to perfection, then use AIO as their base for their LSP.

the neat thing about AIO is that it can be used in different way. it has some chemical cleaning abilities, plus a little bit of abrassives for some polishing abilities, plus it has some protective abilities. think of it as a darn good cleaner wax that can clean quite well and offer good protection, especially when compared to the normal cleaner wax.

i hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more.

hirosh, Thank you! I think I am starting to understand. I just posted a new thread about this a little while ago. If I choose to just use the SSR2.5 now and decide to go with the AIO at a later date, how long should I expect to go before using the AIO? Whats the usual time frame? Thanks again!

So it sounds to me that I should invest in the poorboys to officially REMOVE the scratches and swirls.

After that I can use a gentler product from then on.

FastGt94,

I think evryone's covered just about all the bases for ya, here. Prep with the poorboys line should do the trick! ( as discussed on this thread) The EX w/Carnauba should work well when topped by Souveran. Souveran is magic on black. (IMO) Here's some other options that have worked well for me on Black & Dark Green paint. Klasse Twins topped with Souveran. ( or P21S) You might also try Wolfgang topped with Souveran. Last but not least......Zaino! I just put 3 coats of Z5 and 2 coats of Z2 Pro on my black truck this week & it looks amazing when topped with Z8!! Have Fun!!

Yeah, it seems like the SSR 2.5, SSR 1, Megs 80, Vanilla Moose, EX and Souveran will be my combo. I'm only going to buy the SSR 1 in case the SSR 2.5 on two different pads doesn't work.

Unless someone greatly argues against the combo, I believe I'm going to go ahead and purchase.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

Without seeing your car, I can't really say exactly where you should start but if you have pretty noticable spider swirls, etc, I'd go with something like this:

SSR2.5 with a cutting pad

SSR2.5 with a polishing pad

#80 with a polishing pad

RMG with a finishing pad (the blue Propel pad seems perfect!)

EX x 2 (24 hours apart)

Souveran (24 hours after last layer of EX).

So the Vanilla Moose would be overkill? I was thinking of using that between #80 and RMG.

Also what is the importance of the 24 hours apart? Is that just giving the chemicals time to react with eachother? Would I buff off the first layer of EX?

Gotcha! Thanks!

One last quick question, do you all feel that the Vanilla Moose will be overkill and unnecessary?

Otherwise, I'll be placing my order today!

Thanks again!:wavey

Wound up going with that combo.

I ordered 1 yellow, 2 green, 1 blue, and 1 gray

Do you think this is enough or should I order more pads? I'd prefer to have enough to get it done in one day w/o having to wash out the pads if possible.

I'll be applying the Souveran by hand most likely unless you think it is ok to apply with the PC?
