Collonite ?

Just found a local auto parts store that carries the Collonite brand wax. The 885 ($17.95) and the Insulator (14.95) What is the review on this brand ? From what I read is that their wax is pretty durable. Any thought , review and comaprison ? Which one shall I get ? which color will benefit form collonite ?

I'm not going to dig up the threads (you can find them via search), but I think it's safe to say the general concensus is that #845 (Insulator) is relatively easy to apply, very duarable, and looks pretty darn good. You can see examples of it by checking Scottwax's recent work. I think it creates a nice deep slick gloss. I'd liken the look to Clearkotes Carnauba.



The 885 is (I think) a marine wax. I have no experience with it.
 
I can't rememer what the 885 is...is it the Marque de Elegance (sp?)?



Assuming that's what the 885 is, I'd just choose paste of liquid, depending on which you prefer. Not like you'll go wrong either way.
 
I found Collinite at a NAPA store here in the middle of PA. I bought the 845IW for around ten bucks. Since other Autopians quoted higher prices elsewhere, I bought a couple.



I can't speak about the other Collinites, though I will probably try them in the spring. I can say that IW does have a very nice look, not quite as nice as the "beauty waxes" but pretty doggone good.



It's also easy to use, and good and tough. Moreover, as other posters have mentioned, it tends to shed water. After driving in the sloppy after-effects of a minor snowfall yesterday, I stopped at a self-service car wash, and briefly used the wash wand.



The dirt (and water) pretty much rolled off. I was happy with the result. And, since the IW shed the dirt and water so quickly, I used less time (and quarters) in the wash bay.



You can't go wrong with Collinite if you have a car that is driven daily, regardless of the conditions.
 
Where in Central PA did you find IW845? I "borrowed" a bottle from my Dad in Pittsburgh to test it on my truck. I liked the results and would like to pick up some of my own.

The #885 is packaged as a marine wax, but it's the same formation as the regular #476 wax indicatedfor cars. It's actually a better deal since you get more wax for your money.

I got it at World of Auto Parts (a NAPA store) in DuBois, PA, which is about 120 mi. northwest of PGH. I couldn't bring Collinite up on NAPA's website, but I've got to bellieve that some other NAPA stores carry it, though my hometown store in Clearfield does not.

Ah, good to know. I found #476 kind of tough to remove, but overall I was impressed with it. I think I like #845 slightly better, though.

Thanks... Du Bois is a bit of a haul for me... I am near Harrisburg / Carlisle. I'll check my local stores, or just have my Dad grab me a bottle in Pittsburgh where he bought his. :)

you may want to check your local Advance Auto. I've found it there as have some others....not all carry IW , though.



dirtdiggler : IW , I've found , looks best on lighter colors , it doesn't do much to deepen darks.

That said , however , it doesn't look bad on ANY color. It's appearance is more that of a sealant....very glossy and clear. It depends on what you like.

Overall , for usability , looks and durability , it's a fine product.

Best applied with thin coats using the PC.

One more thing , it doesn't stain trim...a big plus in my book!

I've purchase collinite insulator wax at the NAPA in Harrisburg (Colonial Park) earlier this fall. At the time, they only had one bottle.



I wasn't in there specifically looking for it. Just happened to walk down the detailing isle, saw it, and grabbed it since it was cheaper than ordering online from Advance Auto like I normally do.



Even though the Advance Auto website says it is availble in one of the local stores (Enola), it is never there when I go and the sales people have no idea what I'm talking about.
