i have used 845 for 36 years and i'm sticking to it. usually 2 coats. :D

How do you clean the cloths you buff it out with, Collinite is pretty detergent resistant.

thanx

Woolite?

Yesterday I rinsed out my grout sponge that I had used with ONR. The sponge was black from cleaning wheels wells that had some tire dressing on it.

When i put a little Woolite on the sponge and started working it in, most of the black came out. I was impressed.

IME the wax residue is just a dried powdery substance that doesn't really *bond* to the MF towel and washes out quite easily. It's washing certain LSPs out of *applicators* that can be a chore.

I found 845 to be as durable as 476S, to my surprise, because I expected a paste to outlast a liquid. Now I'm wondering if 845 over 476S might last even longer than just the one product.

I use 845 for winter in MN. As you may know, it gets hash in these parts.

2 coats a week/wash apart and I can make it from end of Oct. to April fine. I do try to wash and boost with AW 1 or 2 times if its warm enough, that isn't always possible.

FWIW when I run out of 845 I may try that 1000p stuff, it sounds good too.

There's just *so* much "YMMV" when it comes to stuff like this. Heh heh, I sure wish my 845 lasted as long as my 476S!

If you want to do them both, I'd do 845/476S/845. Using the 845 for a base simply *works* for me and seems to make the 476S a bit more user-friendly too. Kinda surprising that I like that 845-then-476S combo since I don't get super durability out of 845, huh?

Oh jeeze, I'm envious! Two coats of a liquid lasting that long is really something!

Besides the past/liquid difference, the two seem, well, like very different LSPs. For one thing, I get the feeling that the FK1000P isn't as trim-friendly as 845 (but then, what is). I put the FK1000P on the DenaliXL's trim with no problems, but I chickened out on the rubber running boards and used KSG on those instead ;)

Swan - FYI - 476s and 885 are the same product, just packaged with different numbers for the auto and marine markets. 885 is a better bargain usually, more product in the can.

Thanks, wasn't aware of that. I am still undecided what I want to try this year for winter durability on my vehicles. Guess I have a little bit of time left to decide.

What would you use instead if you decide to *not* go with the Collinite?

I live up in the north where we have bad winters i use either collinite 845 or FK1000P i prefer FK1000P it looks better on my black paint i find it last a tad longer and beads better then the collnite after a heavy winter. This year i am using FK1000P

DG 105, 501, S100 (although durability is a ?), OPT PS, Megs 16....I am not sure what else I have in my collection. I know I have other stuff but damn my memory is going. LOL

swan- The Collinite (IME) lasts/protects a lot better than the P21s or even #16. I used to switch my wife's A8 from #16 to Collinite before she noticed the different look and mentioned how she prefers the #16's appearance.

2 coats of 845 will last 4-5 months as stated already, if you apply ocw say once a month, not that it's necessary, but it will boost both the shine and the durability imho.

Collinite #476 and #915 are essentially the same product except #915 contains more carnauba. Applied correctly (Dawn wash> clay> polish> glaze> thin even coat of wax) and either will last a long long time...as long or longer than anything else. They produce a beautiful "soft" look which IME most people love (me) but some don't.

Collinite isn't like Zaino and some other products, in that you can apply layer after layer and expect to get more and more depth. One or two thin coats about a day apart is all you need for best results.

I have both and I could not tell a difference except for the price.

Does #915 contain more carnauba because the can holds 3oz more=25% more carnauba?

IMO #915 does not contain 25% more carnauba by formulation. It is by volume.

I could be wrong, but this reminds me so much of the S100 = P21S similarities by comparison.

Noooo...I talked to one of the chemists at Collins after 915 came out and was told that it contains more carnauba...and this wasn't a trick answer. In fact, he asked me if I was happy with 476 and I said "yes" , he replied "keep using it". Collins has been in the business so long that that they aren't into marketing gimmicks. Both 476 and 915 are great products.

#915 should produce a slightly better result and not last quite a long as #476. At least that's my experience.

I came across a bottle of 845 in my Dad's stash. He used to detail his Miata religiously, but that was years ago. The wax is supposed to be liquid, right? Well the wax had obviously experienced seperation. I shook the bottle several times which seemed to help matters. Is it still good to use? I'd like to try it out.
