Collinite Insulator Consistency?

I used Collinite #845 Insulator Wax today for the first time. How thick is this stuff supposed to be? Mine was sort of "milky" looking and kind of goopy also. I shook the bottle pretty well also. Is this correct? It felt really oily as well.



The Insulator had the bad smell like everyone said it would though. It spread pretty good also using a hand applicator. I believe I'll use my PC next time though!



I love the look and feel of this stuff so far!
 
That's the consistency of it. Once you use some more product, there is more room in the bottle for it to slosh around when you shake vigourously, allowing it to thin out. I also let it sit in the sun or in front of the radiator if it's cold.



However, my bottle, about 2 years old now, is liquidy, no longer thick.



I noticed when my bottle was new, at the top, there was a thick, blob of product stuck in the spout area (even when shaken). Once I used up that, the rest of the bottle seemed more liquidy (if this makes sense). Sort of like cream rising to the top. It's more thick, compared to the thinner milk at the bottom. That's the best way I can explain it.



Yeah, it does stink.
 
IW is an interesting animal. In an unmolested state it can be so thick that it moves in the bottle like frozen butter. But start to shake, swing, do everything with it and after 2-3 minutes it begins to thin out. In fact when the shaking process is finished it is almost watery thin and runny. In this state it spreads incredibly! How does it, don't ask.



So, just give it a good, vigorous shake! Is should be smooth, thin, homogeneous. One of my all-time faves.



Edit: I even like the smell of it.
 
IW is indeed a different animal compared to any other wax I've used! I was afraid mine had gone bad! As Spilcy said, I had a "blob" at first too! It seemed really,really, really oily too!! I got way too much on in spots as it was a little hard to remove. For the most part it come off easily. I'm not sure how long I shook the bottle, but it was at LEAST a minute or more, maybe two. I shake more vigorously next time.



Today was fairly warm with temps in the 50's and sunny skies! I was just about to get started with the IW after a Color-X polish when a guy stopped by to talk to me. He didn't leave until dark! Thus, I had to apply and remove the IW by carport light! It still dried after about an hour. I was impressed!





It made my car so slick and shiny!!! I topped off with Z8 for good measure too!
 
845 thins when it is warm-apply a couple drops to a pad and spread it thin. it is interesting stuff. starting to get a bit of a cult like following here ;)
 
I haven't used mine yet, but it seemed quite gritty as I rubbed it between my fingers. That seemed a bit strange to me, but maybe thats because its a bit clumpy yet. Smells like WD40.
 
I put my 845 IW bottle in a tupperware container some warm water before using. 10-15 mins and its in a liquid state and ready to go.

I'd suspect its lumpy as its non abrasive.
 
I took my trash out last night and I could still smell the Collinite on my car. That was from 10 or 15 feet away too. :p

It's easier to get a thin coating with the PC.

This stuff really spreads well. If you're having any removal problems , it's probably because you applied too much.

If you think you're using too little, use less!

3-4 small drops per panel 'til the pad is primed--(usually after about 2 panels)--then that same amount should cover at least 2 panels.



And ,yeah, this stuff stinks like an old farmhand.

A cult implies that others that don't agree with your way of thinking (or in this case, your wax) are wrong and only you have the truth about what's best for a car.



I think people are realizing its ease of use, lack of trim staining, suprisingly good looks and incredible durability when compared to other waxes. It satisfies the major criteria on what makes a solid wax. For winter protection or non-garaged cars, it serves a key purpose for those who use.



Nobody here who uses Collinite is saying that any other products are wrong and that Collinite looks the best. The only stir that Collinite users might make is that it is more durable than nearly every other wax.



As my signature states, I'm a long time user and recommend it to all, but not at the expense of belieivng its the end all, be all of waxes.



We Collinite guys are a friendly, inclusive bunch! :D
 
What I love about the Collinites I have is the clear, absolutely neutral appearance. However, it adds something to the finish, makes it look right, and when you combine them with other products they show the underlying stuff extremely well. One of my all-time fave combos are the FX/845, TWPUG/845, 845/885/FK Pink, and they are working very good indeed with NXT Paste. Honest, high-tech, excellent product.
 
I used 845 over Mothers Reflections TopCoat on my moms Teal camaro-looks great. The nicest thing about 845 is that it will go over anything. Lots of combo choices to play with.
 
I mostly use it over glazes. The two that I routinely use include Omega Glaze and Vanilla Moose.



The wax that I like to top it with is Blitz. I just picked up Pink Wax, so I'll have to try Bence's tip.

Yeah, I definitely put on too much. I should have moistened the pad also.



I mean I could smell the wax on the car as soon as I opened the door after several hours!!!



Yup,There was a swarm of bugs around it also!
