Collinite 845 question (yes another one)

Alright guys I did search and not all my questions could be answered so I was hoping the experts could help me out here. I dont usually paly with waxes but after reading some of the reviews here I decided to buy some 845. I also just purchased some Jeff Werkstatt and Surf City Garage products for the first time. Any way it was 67 degrees today outside of Philly so I washed my car and applied the 845, very runny, wasnt prepared for that!

Alright here are my questions in no particular order:

1) should I apply a second coat? (winters get pretty nasty here, lots of salt)

2) What is the cure time on this product, I usually work with FMZ and Zaino.

3) I have polycharger, is it worth it and will it cut the cure time down?

4) the topper, can I top it with Acrylic jett trigger? Optiseal?

5) which one? both? How long after?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm excited to use these products, together if possible.

I'm looking to get through the winter here so durability is my concern, in the spring I plan

on using my new SIP/PO106/Prime Strong/ Acrylic Jett/Acrylic Jett trigger/ Optiseal combo!!!!!!:scared:

Thanks

Jerry:buffing:

845 doesn't have to "cure". Are you referring to how long before you can reapply it (or over it)? Or how long before you can buff off? A second coat won't hurt for complete coverage, etc.

I don't think you'll want to put a sealant over 845 (except perhaps Optiseal, of the ones you mentioned). If you are just trying to get complete coverage, you can put a second coat on right after you buff the first one off. If you are trying to "layer" (which some would say is not possible with 845 due to the high solvent content), then I'd wait several hours to 12 hours to 24 hours, the warmer/dryer it is where you have the car the shorter.

Awsome, thanks for your help, all the threads I read about 845 everyone was topping with Aquawax, so i figured a sealer is a sealer and I was dying to play with my new Werstatt stuff. But I can use the Optiseal just the same, I do have AW but I figured the others would be better.

I don't know enough about this stuff to *really* know what I'm talking about...but don't the resins/whatever in 845 take a while to "cure"/become stable/etc.? I always wait around a day or so between coats of 845, but I've never done the sort of serious experimenting that I did with the 476S so :nixweiss

I will say that the more coats of 845 the better with regard to durability. One coat/application by itself never impressed me much, but three or more is a different story.

Yeah, I don't know either...I never know in these discussions whether we're trying to give "functional" advice or whether we're talking esoteric science experiments. It sounded to me like the OP just wanted to know if he had to wait before doing another coat, not how many molecules he was going to take off if he did it right away.

Another aspect of "curing" is whether the product will be washed away by dew or rain shortly after application...again, in the context of the OP's question I inferred that the "right" answer was that 845 doesn't have to "cure", but I was just trying to be helpful...although perhaps I wasn't.

Guys, Thanks for everyones help! Car came out looking very nice, like I said looks was a side benefit and durability was my main concern here. Although we had a break in the weather the snow is coming and so is the salt that Penndot puts everywhere!

So here is what I wound up doing:

Wash the car which already had several layers of Polycharged FMJ on it from my winter prep in early October, First coat of 845 let cure for 24hours, second coat of polycharged 845, let cure for two hours, topped with Duragloss AW........looks great!

Should get me through to spring.

Thanks again for all the replys and PM's!

Its really great to be a part of this community!

I'm running three layers of 845 on my black Tribute, which was done in October.

I'm very impressed with the way it's held up, in light of the absolutely horrid weather

we've been having in the Chicagoland area.

Heh heh, yeah...I'm all in favor of keeping this sort of discussion as down-to-earth as possible :D

.. It sounded to me like the OP just wanted to know if he had to wait before doing another coat, not how many molecules he was going to take off if he did it right away...

Well, I don't worry too much about a few molecules of LSP either ;) If it weren't feasible to wait I think I'd go ahead and do the multiple applications back-to-back as opposed to just doing one.

Ya know, I've waxed a lot of vehicles and then driven them in the rain right away. Can't say as I've *ever* noticed any problems from that. I suspect that most all LSPs are way too tough to be compromised by some water, even right after they're applied.

.. I was just trying to be helpful...although perhaps I wasn't.

Eh, you were your usual hepful self, and I might've been being my usual sorta-pedantic self :o

I've always wondered about polycharger. Did you notice a difference with the charged 845? Visual difference? Ease of removal? Etc.

Yes, it was easier to remove, then again that may been because it was the second coat.

Better shine as well, I am going to add a third coat tomorrow only because I have some left over, I mixed two onces and only used a little over an once.
