Collinite 476s vs 915

How do you get the 476S on the pad? I've tried using the stuff with the PC, and it is so hard that I cannot get to spread on the pad. The method I used was to scrape it out of the can with a butter knife. Putting the can in the sun softened it up a bit, but not enough..

With the 4" pads on the Cyclo I can put the pad in the can same as with a hand applicator. When I use the PC I basically do what you're doing, only I use a plastic razor blade or my rubber-bladed spatula to get the wax from the can to the pad. Yeah, the 476S is pretty hard, that's probably the toughest part of the job, getting it on the pad ;)

You could also try scrunching up the pad and jamming it in the can, but IMO you'll get a lot more wax on the pad than you need that way. Remember that a little 476S goes a long way, you only need enough on the pad to avoid running a dry pad over the paint.

Could just be different tolerances with regard to the hassle of the whole machine-application. I'd rather struggle with getting the wax on the pad than apply by hand, but that's just me (memories of my past shoulder issues make machine application appealing to me).

I also apply the DoubleCoat with a 4" pad using wither my polishing pal or my WEN 4" RO and have no problem. It is unfortunate that it comes in the "old-fashioned" type can with an overhanging metal lip instead of a straight edge jar like Natty's. With those containers, the round of wax can easily transferred to a square of plastic wrap and the round wiped lightly over any applicator of choice, including 6" machine pads. I'll have to give a closer look to my DoubleCoat can and see if I can remove the lip and place the entire round in another container. I find a light spritz of S&G facilitates any carnuba removal and reduces any dusting to zero.

applying waxes....use a spoon turn it backwards and "scrape" some on the curved portion of the spoon. Then spread on the pad(s). I hope this is not to confusing...

Both Collinite 845IW and 476S contain grade A carnuaba wax.

The two Mikes who are the owners of Collinite said it pretty much that 915 is a pretty boy's version of 476S and thats from the owners mouths.

What do you mean? Sorry, I didn't understand you... Do you mean that 915 is better tran the other two or that 915 is the same as 476S but in a good looking packing?

Thnaks.

My god... Have you tried both? I read in the forum different things: 915 is less durable and with more Carnauba, 476S is more durable but less good looking...

I have to search in the forum pictures about different results with both waxes, especially in black colors, as mine.

Thanks !!

Try to find ScubaStevo's review and photos on 476S on his red Buick. The beads are absolutely amazing !

A few of the recent Collinite threads are so similar I'm having trouble keeping them straight.

Just like with EdLancer, when I talked with the guys at Collinite, they actually made fun of the people who buy the 915...they make it for people who "insist on spending more money "and on having a "nice smelling" wax. They said that none of *them* use the stuff and that was enough for me.

And IMO [flamesuit on] you're not gonna get a fair comparison between two Collinite paste waxes via internet-quality photos. There are a zillion variables besides the actual wax and all of them are gonna be more significant the the differences between the two products under discussion.

Ok, thanks. Then I have to think about 476 or 845...

FWIW, I just sent another bottle of 845 down to the in-law who got my Volvo wagon. It's so user-friendly that I can't imagine recommending she use anything else. And as tlak's pics show, it does look good. I'm just nutty about paste waxes myself.
