Coating that have stopped beading.......

The 2.0 looked great. Every bit as good as any other LSP. The slickness was not there but it cleaned up super easily. The beading really helps if you blow dry the car like I do. Metro mega vac blower.
Thanks.Gloss coat claims to have more shine then the 2.0

I used about 1/2-3/4 of the syringe to do my car. And when I say I, I really mean David Saunders applied 90% of the car. So I am sure it was don't properly. The beading dropped off at 2 years and it still cleans up well, but is a pain to dry. I am an Opticoat fan. I was told by Dr. g to clay it, did that, then to wash with an APC did that. I was not able to revive the beading properties. In all fairness the GTech EXO petered out at 2 years as well.

Seems like 2 years is the new limit on coatings. I am sure a new technology will come out sooner or later to give super hydrophobic, mar resistant LSPs a reality.

I have full faith David Saunders applied it properly.Maybe it has to do with environment also? Does your vehicle sit outside in extreem temps?Did you wash it regularily?

Applied OCP almost 5 years ago to my wife's vehicle and it's still beading great, showing excellent dirt resistance and dries very easy too.

I too was under the impression that like 2.0 was like the pro version in regards to its longevity? Wonder why others are experiencing failures? Where is Chris Thomas when you need him?

As to I. David is a pro and a well respected one. I am sad we lost him on the East Cost.

To answer you, Yes it sits outside 24x7 about 1200 feet front the ocean. We also had a sever 2013 winter with loads of salt. I just thought that after so many people insisting that it was still there, I just needed to either decon it or APC it to expose the coating again. Made sense and I tried to no avail. No it is important for me to state that the car cleans easily. I feel the protection is still present. I just lost the beading.

It makes it More time consuming to dry.

I have similar feelings after 2 years with EXO. Protection might be there but the beading is gone.

Is the gloss coat better than the 2.0 as far as looks?

Yes, absolutely. I know some pros are now using it over OC Pro for even more pop...at an extra charge, of course.

It's hard to really capture in pictures just how really deep the paint looks on my geriatric gold Accord...

It is hard to tell in pictures, but it certainly looks great.

I never had a complaint about the look of the of 2.0. Just the slickness which I was willing to forgo for the durability.

For 2 years, it was great and today still continues to look good and wash/release dirt easily. Just no beads :(

You know you could run your car over with hyper polish and put Gloss coat or Exo on top of the left over 2.0 to restore beading :)

Thanks,

What I did was permanon platinum the car to make drying easier and if need be with re-up it once or twice to get through the cold months and then I will lightly polish and re-coat. Not sure with what yet. Perhaps between now and then something new will be released.

So far my thoughts are ( in no particular order):

1. EXO v2
2. Gloss Coat
3. Cquartz UK

I hope something better than the above comes out. By better I am looking for
(These are in order for me)

1. Hydrophobic best in class
2. Excellent mar resistance
3. Long lasting of # 1 and #2
4. Easy of application
5. Price

You know you could run your car over with hyper polish and put Gloss coat or Exo on top of the left over 2.0 to restore beading :)

Thanks Scott!
Do you need a garage for application of Gloss coat? How long to cure before moisture or rain?

Joe,
I thought it was Optimum Finish New Formula to lightly clean up Opti-Coatings..

Love their Hyper Polish as well and have used a few bottles of it over the years.. This product keeps cutting until you stop it, so perhaps it would not be as good for Opticoat refreshing unless you want to take it all off.. ?

I was wondering about this the other day.... Mainly because my car has OC 2.0 and I am thinking about going with gloss coat or Cquartz. Optimum says OC 2.0 cannot be topped with anything because it just doesn't adhere to OC 2.0. Well you polish the OC 2.0 and there is still some there... Yet now I can top it? So my question is, why can the polished OC 2.0 be topped but the unpolished can't?

I think what happened with coatings is that it isn't as easy to apply as a wax or sealant, and because of it, the coating suffers. Being a pro, doesn't mean that he is applying it correctly. Look for it, you will see many "pros" brag about how fast they are able to apply OC. Then down the road they complain that the product sucks.

I hope this isn't in reference to the accusations you made towards me on AGO, supposedly bragging about such things, where I quickly proved you wrong...

I still feel that it is the application. Otherwise your experience would have been the same.

I'm sorry, but this is such a crock and I'm so sick and tired of the standard line being "it was applicator error"! That's the same line of BS that was given me when I showed Optimum there was an issue with the batch of coating I had in early 2011. It was only after I sent video evidence that in house testing was done to confirm the issue I was seeing! Low and behold it wasn't my application issue, but a problem with the resin!!!

Seeing a coatings beading characteristics fall off around the 2 year mark is applicator error??? Seriously??? How about it being a variation in environment, elements it's subject to, or how it's cared for? Just because it isn't beading like day one doesn't mean it isn't there protecting the paint!

Just in my experience, when I've had someone trash OCP to the point I couldn't restore the beading with all the normal methods, I've had tons of success with running it over with hyper polishing and reapplying. I know there is no way this is removing all of it because to get OCP fully off a car I've had to use aggressive compounding.

I could bt wrong but first hand I've had nothing but good experiences doing a quick polish and re coating. Even on a car that had 2 year old OCP on it. I spent all of an hour running around the car whole panel style with hyper polish, wipe down coat. Good as day one. See it later and no problems. Particularly like using EXO for this. Recently did it with Gloss Coat too just no time for me to stand behind it.

I've personally seen OCP go flat after two washes from bad soap mix and hard water. A good decon brought it back but just one other thing to factor in. Without knowing the variables and assuming it's a shot in the dark.
I had to ask questions to figure out what happened. Coatings are no different than paint they can get contaminated or damaged before fully cured. Not everything that has issues is installer error. There are too many variables once vehicle leaves your doors.
