Coated Leather Care

It seems that almost all new leather is coated, I have been caring for my coated leather in the same way as uncoated, using Lexol cleaner and conditioner. Just wanted to see if you guys treated coated and uncoated the same. I am thinking about picking up the Platinum Leather Conditioner and want to make sure it is going to be the best for my coated seats.

You are doing about as good a job that you can with Lexol. I use that on all my deatil jobs that have leather.

Are Lexol and 303 about the same as far as compatiblity with all leathers (except absorbent leather) ? They both clean and treat equally well?

Hopefully, the Platinum Leather Conditioner is good for coated leather. Whatever leather there might be in my wife's Pontiac GTP is definitely of the coated variety. I do think about 80% of it is vinyl. It has had the PLC used since early December of 2002.
One thing that persuaded me to buy PLC was the leather smell. Not overpowering, but just a subtle leather odor. Seems to be doing fine. Seats are still not cracked and the car will be three years old in July.

I think I found the answer, well at least for me. I just picked up some 303, not only was it awesome on my dash and inside trim, but was the best I have seen on my black leather, crisp, clean, and a little darker. It isn't glossy but nice.

There is a debate flaming over the use of your traditional leather conditioner, like PLC and Pinnacle, on clear coated leather. The thought is that the clear coating will not allow the conditioner to feed the leather and will in the long run damage the coating.

The KLasse dressing works well as does 303 for the clear coated seats and most of the European imports are still making non-coated leather while a good majority of the domestic and Asian cars have a coating on their leather.

This is one of those debates that may never see a definitive answer.
