CMA’s Advanced Finger Pads

Looking for some feedback . . .



Since discovering Autopia, Iâ€â„¢ve switched from wool pads to foam. I realize this may not be a popular opinion, but Iâ€â„¢m not too happy with the foam. Wool has always been good to me . . . consistent cut and predictable handling. IMO foam tends to gum up too quickly, unexpectedly skip from time to time, and not cut as quickly as wool. Iâ€â„¢m not discounting user error, but Iâ€â„¢ve tried several brands of foam, multiple products, and various techniques. No luck.



The CMA Advanced Finger Pads seems to be the best of both worlds â€â€œ similar in design to wool with the added safety of foam. Just wondering if anyone can comment on these pads. Good, bad, or indifferent?
 
I can't comment on the CMA ones but I can on the Pakshak green ones that Ranney sells. I really like these. Great for those hard to reach areas and seem to fit my fingers perfectly.

If I'm not mistaken, you're referring to the small foam applicators that fit over two or three fingers, correct?

I've used the LC tufted "finger pads" with a rotary but let me say that I'm very new at using a rotary so I can only relate my experience using these pads 'cause I've never used wool so I can't compare.



I'm comfortable with a PC & the only reason I have a rotary (WEN 2-speed) is a friend gave it to me. I wasn't brave enough to try it using a wool pad to I bought some of the LC finger pads (1 white and 1 yellow) from scott at SMP.



I found them to be easy to use & very forgiving when using IP or SSR2.5 (yellow) and FPII (white) & I caused no paint damage.



There was some product slinging & pad hop but that was probably due to my own carelessness spreading product inadequately before powering-up the rotary.



Clean-up was a snap & the only reason I lost a couple "fingers" is because I tried to get a bit too cute around a hood ornament.



If the results I can get being a total noob are this good, an experienced person should really enjoy using these pads. For an inexperienced person, these pads are a great first step (baby step?) when moving up to a rotary.
 
Different take: only use the finger pads on single stage, and even then only on vehicles that I know will shed a lot of paint. They don't load up as much as regular pads. Other than that I've never found any functional advantage over regular pads.



If you like them, no reason not to use them. If you like what you're using now, maybe no reason to try them.



Now you have both pro and con opinions :D
