"Cloudy" Window Trim on BMW 540

Nearly all of the window trim on this 2000 BMW 540 is "cloudy"

Any advice on how I can return it to its original shine?

Thanks for any help.

What is the trim finish? Looks like the anodized "brushed aluminum" I had on my Cayenne S. If so, you can't treat it.

I was thinking the same thing, based on my experiences with Audis...but I know from *nothing* about the trim on BMWs :nixweiss

If it is the same situation, I'd just clean it with a mild AIO and keep it well-protected with LSP to retard the degradation. I've been able to arrest the problem pretty well, not obviously getting worse after four or five years (but sure not getting better either).

I post on various other forums one having alot of VAG fans, and VAG group trim is complete utter trash. Premature failure of trim such as badges, logos, roof rails. Rubber stripping and fake chrome stripping on the windows.

In the UK there are quite a few bits being replaces under warrenty.

With regard the BMW you might just have to get a replacement part and fit it.

Eh...the finish on the Audi replacement parts fails even (much) faster than that on the original ones...no I can't explain why, but it's a complete waste of time/etc. to replace it IMO. On the S8, the deer-incident replacement parts have failed while the older OE pieces on the other side are still OK.

Maybe the BMW stuff is better :nixweiss
