Cloudy Paint

I have cloudy paint on my roof such as the one here(not my car and not that bad). The rest of my car is in pristine condition how in the heck do i remove this?! What is the best polish i prefer XMT line. The only one i have tried is XMT 360 and it worked wonders on the rest of my car but did nothing for that.

If your not seeing any improvement with the 360 then I would venture a guess that your paint has failed to a point that is not restorable without repainting.

There are plenty of more aggressive polishes you could use and/or buffing pads as well as using a rotary but the fact is clear coats that have oxidized as bad as the one pictured will rarely come back to life. Most of the time, there just isn't enough good paint left.

I am curious as to why only the roof is having the problem. Could it be a repainted section? Or maybe the only section that wasn't repainted? Usually the first place to go bad is the hood because of the heat from the engine.

well here is the after shot of the polished hood, and it looks pretty good. And they used xmt 1 and 3. I didn't want to repaint but man its an eyesore.

these pictures are from another post btw, i was just using them as an example. When i was scrolling down they instantly jumped at me and i was like man i wish i could remove that. I just need the right polish and pad. And i'm new to the PC. I posted pics of my first detail on my car with it and i was blown away. When i bought i heard the 360 was great so i got that with it and i was floored with the results but one of the main things i was focused on was getting rid of the cloudy paint on the roof.

And i have seen a little improvement and have spent extra time on the roof with the PC and 360 but that pretty much plateaued with this polish and pad combination.

If you are seeing improvement than using something a bit more aggressive like the XMT#4 might do the trick. It's also possible you aren't seeing anymore improvement because the paint is giving you the best it has left.

Dealing with oxidation is a little tricky because you don't really know how much good paint you have to work with.

As far as Budman's before and after shots. They do look great but that finish will never be as good as it once was. It will be prone to oxidation and will have to be maintained more often.

That looks like clear coat failure to me...if that is SS paint then a good light cut compound would be in order...but I would be careful as the paint might be real thin
